There’s no end to the sports championships held in Las Vegas. In July, some of the best ping pong players will compete in the inaugural World Table Tennis US Smash 2025 event. Here’s the lowdown:

When: Qualifying, July 3-July 5, 2025; Main draw, July 6-13.

Main Venue: Orleans Arena, Table 1.

Secondary Venue: MGM Grand, Tables 2, 3 and 4.

Draw Ceremony: July 4, time and venue TBD.

Events: Men’s Singles, Doubles; Women’s Singles, Doubles & Mixed Doubles.

Prize Money: $1.55 million.

Global Superstars to Watch For: Men: World No. 1 China’s Lin Shidong, No. 2 China’s Wang Chuqin, No. 3 Brazil’s Hugo Calderano, U.S. No. 1 Kanak Jha. Women: World No. 1 from China Sun Yingsha, Wang Manyu and Chen Xingtong, U.S. No. 1 Lily Zhang

Tickets On Sale: TBD.

Trophy Time: The event marks the debut of the iconic U.S. Smash silver trophies, set to become one of the sport’s most coveted symbols of victory.

What You’ll See: A table tennis event experience like no other: loud, electric, and up close. The arenas are built for noise, energy, and drama, bringing fans and media right into the heart of every serve, smash, and shock upset.

“So, with that said, we went back to the drawing board and said, what can we do in the U.S.? So when the U.S. and China actually went together and were bidding for the world championships, back-to-back as an anniversary of the ‘ping-pong diplomacy’ 50 years [after], so we had Chengdu 2022 and Houston 2021, they were actually bidding, let’s say, together.

“So we said at that time that’s a perfect event to have there and we convinced the [ITTF Annual General Meeting] to vote them forward … But in 2021, luckily in Texas, during the pandemic, we could have spectators, so we had actually a very good [event] – spectators and the atmosphere – they really got it. It was a show and it was really very good.

“We had taken also learnings from the world championships in Houston, so the main table and how it is presented now in our high-level Smash events is actually inspired from the Houston event.”

So the U.S. has been a springboard of sports out of the pandemic for the ITTF, and Sorling added:

“In the last two years, in December, I have been to U.S. Open, [2023] in L.A. and [last] year in Las Vegas and it’s very crowded. There is, I can see, a big push and that there is also better results from the players, so we are actually investing in U.S. as one of our most important markets with big potential.

“We are happy that LA2028 takes place; but it’s not, let’s say, the reason [for the U.S. Smash]. We saw already in ‘16 when we went to Philadelphia, we have also very big Asian communities. Around L.A. there is a lot of China associations, but not only about China, but let’s say the platform, we know that we will have spectators there. We know that table tennis is a sport that is for everyone and we are also now trying to build up, to have events. Because what we do now with the Smash, it’s every year. It’s not coming there once, like the world championships, or the World Cup, but with the Smash we go back.

“So the plan is to go, we will have the Smash in Las Vegas and the only one challenge we have is we wanted to stay in Vegas or go to L.A.? That’s what we are discussing and we will try now and see how in July it is in Vegas, but it’s a priority market … it’s a market where we have a lot of potential.”

Holy smokes guys I talked to my wife (she’s awesome btw) and I just purchases tickets for the finals! :) See y’all who‘s going there. I will probably be there the day before and was thinking if anyone from the forum wants to meet up to train / hit a few balls. There’s apparently a club there!

Thank you! So no way to buy a bundle to all 16 sessions?

Also for the VIP experience, do you have the buy the VIP seating from Ticketmaster's AND then buy VIP experience from WTT website? If so, the price is pretty hefty!

I am also interested in the $250 warm-up experience which to me might be cooler than the VIP experience. Is that also an add-on you pay via WTT website later after you buy any ticket from Ticketmaster's (just as long as it is session 1 through 10 and not offered in the later sessions)?

Beware of spreading rumors, @Shine will disapprove, even though policies like these were once commonly expressed by the CNT.

haha
Shine can disapprove all he wants.
I personally know many people in the CNT, I'm sure he can't say the same.

XF was never ranked high enough (NER 8) to get automatic entry for US Smash so no one really cares about him. It comes down to QTY (NER 6).

Note that after the update in late February, 2025 Week #21 - May 20th and 2025 Week #22 - May 27th were the entry deadlines (automatic entry) for singles (6 weeks ahead instead of 5) and doubles (5 weeks ahead instead of 4), respectively.

p.s. QTY has gone downhill after her relationship with CNT badminton player 王昶/Wang Chang (going downhill as well) was exposed.
