Since Doubles is now an Olympic event and Teams is no longer one, it makes common sense. Probably accelerated by Odo-Yoko not winning the WTTC.

She re-signed with the same team T-League team (Kinoshita Abyell) for the upcoming season as last year. I guess a "benefit" of not being a national team player is that you can wear logos of your sponsors rather than the official national team jersey at WTT events.

12月9日の日本卓球協会の理事会で、2024年4月の日本代表オフィシャルサプライヤーの入札を行うが、入札を前にして、2025年4月からWTTに自費参加する選手に関しては個人のウエアを着用できる方向で検討していくことが報告された。

従来、4年間の契約で日本代表のオフィシャルサプライヤーが決まる。現在は、男子がVICTASで、女子のミズノが2025年3月31日まで代表のオフィシャルサプライヤーとしての契約を結んでいる。協会から派遣される選手やスタッフは日本代表公式ウエアを着ているが、現在は自費参加している選手、コーチも日本代表公式ウエアを着用している。

以前から、選手や母体からは「自費参加する国際大会（WTTなど）は所属スポンサーや個人スポンサーのロゴが入ったウエア着用を認めてほしい」と協会に要望を出していた。

2025年4月1日から4年間のウエア契約の競争入札が、1年前である来年4月上旬に予定されている。その入札を前に、協会として個人ウエアの着用を認める方向で検討すると理事会で報告された。

個人ウエア着用はWTTスターコンテンダー、コンテンダー、フィーダーなどで容認されるが、WTTスマッシュ、チャンピオンズ、ファイナルズの3大会はオフィシャルウエア着用となる予定だ。

自費参加する選手たちの経費は今まで所属スポンサーや選手の母体、選手自身が負担してきた。ヨーロッパのWTT1大会に参加すると、渡航費と宿泊費でひとり50～60万円ほどかかり、選手や母体の負担は小さくはない。

今まではスポンサーのロゴの入ったウエアを着用できずに、スポンサーの露出も少なく、所属母体や個人スポンサーがつきにくいという事情も考慮された。

すでにヨーロッパや韓国などでは協会派遣でないWTTなどの国際大会では、所属チームや個人スポンサーの入ったウエアを着るのは当たり前になっている。WTT参戦のための経費が減るわけではないが、プロとして活動する選手が増えた現在、日本選手や母体にとって朗報とも言えるだろう。

At the JTTA's board meeting on December 9th, a tender will be held for the official supplier of the Japanese national team in April 2024, but ahead of the tender, it was reported that the association will consider allowing players who participate in the WTT at their own expense from April 2025 to wear their own clothing.

Traditionally, the official supplier of the Japanese national team is decided under a four-year contract. Currently, VICTAS for men and Mizuno for women have contracts as the official supplier of the national team until March 31, 2025. Players and staff dispatched by the association wear the official Japanese national team clothing, but currently players and coaches who participate at their own expense also wear the official Japanese national team clothing.

Players and their parent organizations have previously requested the association to allow players to wear clothing with the logos of their sponsors or personal sponsors in international tournaments (such as WTT) that they participate at their own expense.

Competitive bidding for a 4-year clothing contract starting 2025/4/1 was scheduled 1 year ago to begin in early April next year. Prior to the bidding, the board of directors reported that the association would consider allowing players to wear their own personal clothing.

Personal clothing will be permitted for WTT Star Contenders, Contenders, and Feeders, but the official clothing will be required for the 3 tournaments of Grand Smash, WTT Champions, and WTT Finals.

Until now, the expenses of players who participate at their own expense have been covered by their sponsors, their parent organizations, and the players themselves. To participate in one WTT tournament in Europe, travel and accommodation costs are about 500,000 to 600,000 yen per person, which is a significant burden on the players and their parent organizations.

Until now, players were not allowed to wear clothing with sponsor logos, so there was little exposure of sponsors, and it was difficult to attract parent organizations or personal sponsors.

It has already become commonplace in Europe and Korea for players to wear clothing with their team or personal sponsors in international tournaments such as WTT that are not sent by the association. Although the expenses for participating in WTT will not decrease, this could be considered good news for Japanese players and parent organizations, as the number of players working as professionals has increased.
