I suspect though I could be wrong that too much credit is being given to the overall league structure and too little to what the teams can afford/want when it comes to the foreign players. Also some of the teams have legacy structures from prior years that affect who gets placed where.

And he has a kid and whatnot…
That’s why I wrote almost. That’s the only match he won by beating Xu Yingbin. Age is an obvious factor but I was asking other members who knew more about his current life.
Decreasing/abandoning your training regimen that worked for years even just a little bit makes ones level drop fast. And it isn't like reducing your training 10% reduces your skill 10%, it could reduce your skill 40% easily when you're at that level and the margins are thin.

I've seen many 2700 players go to 2600 (that's a big reduction in level) and below within a matter of a few months when moving from China to another country and pursuing coaching rather than full time training.

I guess the correct answer is, not everyone is the same.

Like I talked about in the past, some players need to train a lot to play.
some players don't need to.

ie
Timo - don't need to
Dima - need to

for the Dima crowd (which many Taiwanese players fall into too) - if they don't train a lot, they loose confidence and you can also see it in matches.

FZD resumed training and I think the holiday/break probably helped him more than the lack of table tennis during this period.
if it was a few years holiday, then maybe he wouldn't have that result.

I am sure while he isn't training the past few months, he would still do physical training, like going to gym.

and let me add, he is still part of the provincial team, so it isn't like he retired from table tennis. he resumed full time training few weeks ago, and I'm also pretty certain he would still have some training when he is back in the provincial team during this long holiday period.

Simple explanation is probably just that he is built different lol... but I do think playstyles with slower safer strokes and certain natural talents factor into how well you can retain your level even with reduced practice

I find it very strategic the teams are formed by pairing the foreign players with lower tier CNT members.

The only exception is LYJ - feels like a very calculated move to boost fellow lefthander’s HYZ development and suggests the hierarchy is confident they’ve solved his game enough to allow him to be placed alongside WCQ and LJK.

They could’ve easily “recommended” he join Shantou or Sichuan who have 3 and 4 players respectively.
But Huang is largely reduced to the role of a cheerleader and a practice partner in this team. All the heavy lifting is done by the big 3. That's no way to train a prospect. And it was the same way last year. I think this is just plain old business to win the CTTSL. One or two "wealthy" teams in the past have always done this to more or less unless they win the title by smothering the other teams. I remember the days when Chen Meng, Sun Yingsha and Wang Yidi were on the same team in the CTTSL. They almost always won the league if I'm not mistaken. This men's team is likely going for the same strategy.

Lin Yun-ju backhand rubber sponge also is pink. For me it looks like a lot of players test butterfly new rubbers on this tournament, i saw a lot of unusual pink sponges on different players blades.

Nobody‘s mentioned it in this thread so I will. FZD defeated LSD quite convincingly yesterday.
It’s a shame he didn’t participate in the WTTC.
It was a close match. I am happy Fan didnt play, he has suffered enough mentally with these burdens and expectations, and unlike Ma Long, he left early enough for Wang to have a chance. I await Wang vs Fan whenever it comes up.

The other point I forgot to make: he needed to beat Xu Yingbin to keep his team alive. I don't think he needed to beat Xu Haidong (though Fan would have been grateful for sure).

Can the womens' results be found here? (Genuine question, as I can be quite blind sometimes).

Or is this website so blatantly sexist......

Seems that when Shanghai played Shandong Weiqiao, Shandong did not field Wang Chuqin so FZD played Huang. Stop being cheap Shandong (just kidding)!
WCQ "had" low blood sugar, and opted out.

WCQ is.... very arrogant - you can see this in the recent video when he walks into the hotel alone, like a mafia boss, while the rest of the team walks in together like a team ahead of WCQ.

As someone who has gone through a lifetime of having people perceive from afar and coming to interesting conclusions, I will defer to his teammates on this one. He may be arrogant, but I won't read into those kinds of things much if at all. Ma Long had one off the most arrogant looks of all time after the around the net shot against LJK lol....
