Direct linear transform (DLT) is used to map the object point (ball) to the image point (camera) and calculate the actual toss angle. Only 2 cameras are needed.

Theoretically speaking, they could use that to calculate whether the space between the ball and both net posts was obstructed.

Yeah, shouldn't be that hard for TTR to definitively judge pretty much every service. The issues probably comes when the receiver obscures the view of one of the cameras, so ideally should have 3 cameras just in case.

I think USATT likes to do it there, because it becomes a "holiday" + table tennis, but this isn't some national event, this is a major international.

IMO, I would have it at the heart of table tennis population of the US
You want fans, you want kids, you want volunteers, you want to lots of school kids, and hobby players.

Some people already traveled to the US nationals a fortnight before the Smash. How many people can continue two events? These are all "fan" related questions to look at too.
