Thank you for your continued warm support.
We sincerely apologize for any concern caused by the medical timeout at the WTT Champions Yokohama. We also deeply apologize for the delay in providing an explanation, as it took time to confirm with the Japan Table Tennis Association.
We have received a variety of opinions, so let me explain the background to this.
In a match in July of this year, I experienced a symptom where my bones moved during play, causing pain and suddenly making it difficult to grip the racket properly. In preparation for this symptom, I consulted with Akira Nakazawa, head coach of the Japan Table Tennis Association's women's national team, before my second round match on Saturday, August 9th, about wanting to use the newly established WTT medical timeout (MTO) just in case, and about asking my team's trainer, Yusuke Oka, who is familiar with the symptoms, to treat me (by adjusting my joints and muscles). I received a response that there would be no problem with the newly established WTT medical timeout, technical timeout, or water break.
Because the injury was not visible, it was difficult to judge, which is why we obtained approval in advance. However, we believe that the opinion that third parties may question our neutrality is valid. For this reason, based on the unwritten custom of not having a coach in matches between Japanese players, and out of consideration for the opponent, we had a Japan Table Tennis Association staff member present during treatment, who confirmed that only pain and symptoms were checked and treatment was given, and that no advice on tactics or the like was given.
I received treatment during the WTT's new medical timeout rule, and I hope you will understand that this decision was made out of a sincere desire to continue the match. I understand that there are various opinions, but I sincerely ask that you refrain from making abusive comments regarding this matter. I will be more careful in my decisions and responses in the future, and will do my best to continue to receive your support. I would like to ask for your continued support.
