Thoroughly enjoyed Diaz and Lind's second round XD match yesterday against Robles and Xiao. Good play, neither team dilly-dallied between points, and went to five games.

Starts ~11min mark here:

Most especially, it was the way Anders was with Adriana: encouraging and keeping focused, reassuring after her few errors, and above all his repeated praise of her good play (near constant in game two) - "Bravo," very good, very good," "excellent," and ""So fucking good, let's fucking go!"

Was a master class in being a good teammate. 😍

(They play again today vs Shin Yubin and Lim Jonghoon - last match on the main table during the first session.)

Only Good for Doubles lives up to her name by losing to Hayata The Dumb in straight games . There is no winner at this battle of Tieba targets as no surpassing points would have been gained either way.

More seriously, Hayata was very impressive. At this point, references to the wrist should just be retired and we should accept her play for whatever it is

The French about to offer Uda citizenship.

Also Hayata 3-0 Shin. I'm not going to say she's "only good for doubles", but it does feel like Shin's career has largely stalled.
The 3-0 Hayata Shin should spur some reflection from Shin but sometimes you can't tell what the result means until a few matches or months later. Shin missed a few basic balls and not entirely sure what drove that, Hayata's quality or something random.

The best part of all this is that the surpassing battles have as the next quest opponents you can't make up if all goes to plan. As long as Pucar doesnt mess up the party we should get Togami - Jorgic and Uda - Duda. Pretty much what the textbooks would have recommended as classic tests of where these players.... the surpassing battles can go supernova...

She missed a few finishing shots she clearly set up it looked like. Aside from the first game drubbing, that could've been the difference between the typical 'somewhat close loss' to Hayata and what we saw. Would've at least gotten game 2.

That said, she did look a little listless out there in terms of attitude.

As crazy as it may sound, Uda might actually keep up in the surpassing battles here. He is playing as well as Togami did so far. He is dominating Jang so far.

It's almost as if they're both getting better and the whole surpassing premise is flawed.

No no....that doesn't make sense. One's success has to mean the other's failure!

@zeio , do you have a report showing Shinozuka is injured? He lost to Thakkar and seems not to be keeping up...
Not AFAIK. The last time he had a serious injury was back in 2023 and he was healthy again as of 1/2024 (next link).

OTOH, he's working on his game, much like Togami.

No. Togami has not fulfilled his promise and Uda has... oh, wait a minute...

No. Togami has not fulfilled his potential, whereas Uda's style dictates that he will not be as consistent but as Mizutani also admits, Japan needs someone explosive like Korea has, which is who?

It's funny how one guy is judged by results and the other guy is judged by playing like Korea or something like that. Togami's style is also extremely high risk, lets not pretend that because he has a better backhand it is not. Let's try to bring a modicum of fairness and objectivity to the surpassing games and move it away from the whims of Tieba users and zeio please. They are both clearly working on their issues. Anyone who pretends that Uda didn't play far more consistent and better backhands today than he usually does was probably blinded by his amazing forehands but one can go and rewatch the match, the backhands are in plain sight.

i just learned of a way to watch/stream youtube cleanly (no cookies, no ads, no comments, fullscreen, etc) by inserting a "-" in the url and change it to "yout-ube". so much better.
(but i'm old and maybe that's already an old hat or there are widely known similar tricks or add-ons)

now just missing a tool to filter out the commentary ;)
