Quite a Hard match for Calderano tomorrow against Dang Qiu. Dang qiu is somewhat of a Calderano's Kryptonite, Dang qiu has won their 3 last encounters(including bundesliga), worth noting that one of those matches was right after Calderano´s historical world cup and world championships run when Dang Qiu won 3x0 against Calderano in the bundesliga. Last time Calderano won against Dang Qiu was in 2022 in the narrowest of margins(3x2). Nevertheless I´m really rooting for Calderano to snatch this win, he is in his prime and he can pull it off!!

It's not the reflexes but the stubbornness to stay close to the table and therefore lack the time to switch and hope that the opponent will not aim so well he cannot block. If he is injured like I think he is, that is what is causing it, you can see in game 6 of the Wang match, he really stopped moving after the injury timeout.
Then we disagree on that. He takes two steps back for a reason. In 70% of cases, he only blocks the ball (because he is too late) and without any attacking intention. Of course, you won't get anywhere if you want/need to be dominant.

And I agree with you that he would indeed be better off playing his forehand closer to the table in order to train his reflexes, but he himself knows that he doesn't have the reflexes for that and is a backhand-oriented player. This was already the case when he was 13 and still is today.

Two steps back for him is not enough unless he gets a predictable ball. Most players take more than two steps even Feliz is playing back further. Ultimately he needs to find a distance where he can play positive strokes. But he was not able to do it today. But he has done it before and will do it again

WTT feels sad now without the big stars Ma Long, Fan Zhendong, and Xu Xin.

Something just feels missing. The only exciting players now are WCQ and Calderano.

Lin Shidong just doesn't look exciting or special to me. Harimoto isn't really that good unless his opponent is making lots of unforced errors.

Matsushima is skilled, but he doesn't seem dedicated and hasn't really had great results yet.

At this point I'd rather watch some exciting exhibition matches.
Let's have Wang Liqin vs Wang Manyu.
Zhang Jike vs Sun Yinsha.
Ma Lin with 4 point advantage vs Wang Chuqin.
Xu Xin vs Hashimoto Honoka

Patrick Franziska vs Aruna Quadri 3-1 (8,5,-11,7)

During the timeout in G4 at 10:7, the audio was fairly loud and it was possible to hear most of the comments.

Franziska: His serves are half-long without tempo (no-spin?). They are so difficult to attack well with spin.
Rosskopf: No problem. Everything is good. You are leading 10:7, it’s all good. When you receive, it doesn’t have to be short to the FH, you can also play short to the middle…not audible…Regarding your own serve, if you serve side/top, you will most likely get a half-long receive…not audible…now, you have the chance and you’ll take it.

@ttd why don't we have a "bullshit" icon. It would be handy.

Hayata 2-3 WMY (7, -3, 9, -6, -7)
U for useless with her 捨身打法/suicidal playing style (can I just say 特攻卓球?), like with Togami.

The BH serve, a hand that was going to be saved for G4 or G5 was forced to be revealed in G3 to take the "false" lead, and if not for all those edges, it wouldn't have gone down to the wire. More scrutiny to come back at home.

Damn that was maybe the highest level Hayata we've seen for most of this year, especially that Game 1. Seemed to have some decent success with a new BH serve. Not enough to beat someone like WMY, but it's clear she's trying new things to stay competitive. Great performance by Hayata to push WMY to a Game 5 like that.

Well played, Anders! Love watching him rip those BH receives.
Many players show their "inner self" in their games and they do not play as "robots". Anders is one of them; he is capable of the best or the worst. I do love watching him playing, he fascinates me.
