Another DHS Hurricane 8-80 38D Backhand Review

Hey, y’all I’d thought post a quick review on the Hurricane 8-80 (Boosted with Rubber cement) since I‘ve been using it for several months now.

The blades I’ve used this on are:
* Hurricane King Wang Chuqin
* Hurricane King Acb
Currently using on the Acb at the time of this post.

Initial impressions when first trying this rubber was that it felt slow and lacked power, but very stable.

Blocking-
It’s very stable and easy to adjust to
It can be a tad bit sensitive to spin, but nothing small adjustments can’t fix.

Topspin-
The amount spin it generates is pretty great and definitely catches people off guard sometimes. I think its lack of speed with the high spin is what throws people off sometimes.
Counter Topspins also feel good nothing to really go in-depth about.

Flicks-
Very easy to do and everything seems to go in even when it looks like it’s going to go out. Does exactly what you need it do.

Speed & Power-
It can seem underwhelming when hitting or warming up. Once the people who are blocking for you get used to the spin, they have a pretty easy time blocking the ball back. But like a H3 it forces you to use your body to get the best out of the rubber. A fast blade can also make help up for the lack of speed/power that’s why I use the Acb.

Match play-
Now match play is what matters the most and the stability is your best friend. It allows to play a little more aggressively because it a gives you certain level of confidence to be able to trust that your shots will go in. Ever since I switched to this rubber l’ve been winning more consistently. I highly recommend this rubber, even if you’re not a fan of it, it would still be good use on a back up blade. Its very durable, I’m still using the same sheet I started with and I play about 2-4 times a week, 3-4 hours each session.

That tracks with my experience. I've tried it on a few blades and it always felt safe but non-threatening, unless you really wail on the ball. It's definitely more lively than unboosted H3 but far from an ESN tensor or a factory-boosted hybrid like Big Dipper. It's great for training BH fundamentals, or for an all-round game, or maybe taming a particularly fast blade.

How tacky is yours? I have H8-80, and I feel that it is overly tacky. It would be bouncier and easier to use if it was less tacky.

I don’t think it’s overly tacky (Maybe because I used it for so long) but I think your talking about the “ dwell time” where it feels like it’s holding onto the ball for a long time. You probably just prefer tensor rubbers where the ball repulsion is shorter

have you ever tried h3n on your backhand? how would you compare the two, if you have? i'm interested in this rubber..... also do you have a link to the prov version from a reputable store on aliexpress?
I’ve used the 39 commercial in the past. Honestly it’s very spinny and gives people trouble but it was heavy and kind of slow. I would say it’s good for developing feeling of brushing the ball. H8-80 is lighter and allows for better wrist movement but can lack power.

I can look into getting the 37 degree H3N and doing a review on that, since it’s supposed to be softer and springier

Thanks man! I am using h3n 38 on backhand after switching from d09c. it was a little transition but so far i like it.

hey btw, have you bought recently from aliexpress? did you have to pay any extra tariffs for your delivery? or was the price you paid on aliexpress the final price?

I have a friend who has been ordering from them recently and he says that he hasn’t been charged any tariffs. I checked the site myself and they seem to include the import charges in the price of the product.
