Is your father a glazier? The rule 2.6 proved an utter imperfection.

Meaning: The literal interpretation is that a glazier works with glass, which is transparent. By asking if your father is a glazier, the speaker is sarcastically implying that the person blocking their view is not transparent and is, therefore, an obstruction.

ON SERIOUS NOTЕ.

According to keen observations by an international umpire, it was player's head that made the service action illegal on most occasions. Sometimes the hidden balls occured just by chance, undesignedly because the serving player tossed the ball backwards from verticality too far.

Yes, it stands to reason that the service rule 2.6 should be immediately changed so as to prevent players from tossing the ball in backward direction when delivering the serve. The new rule is easy to understand, easy to effect, easy to judge by umpire and the receiver.

Yes, we have now got some favourable feedback from international umpires. Yes, the current service rule proved overly difficult to judge and rather unfeasible in real gameplay where no TTR system is available. Yes, we need a better service rule, here we stand firmly.

Here is the newly proposed service rule we consider the best reasonable rule amendment in every aspect.

2.6.4 From the start of service until it is struck, the ball shall be above the level of the playing surface and behind the server's end line, a̶n̶d̶ i̶t̶ s̶h̶a̶l̶l̶ n̶o̶t̶ b̶e̶

Well now this proves once and for all that you are a bit of a twat (british term of endearment) :ROFLMAO:

How damn difficult would it be to judge this, considering the ball has to be launched behind the line and if it can not be tossed backwards the blade-ball contact would have to be virtually "on the line"
NOT over the line , this is of course illegal too.

Look, the rule is stupid and not fit for purpose.
What puts the spin on the ball?
It's not the toss, it's the racket movement. So as long as you can see the racket at all times what difference does it make if the ball is obscured by someone's nose or chin for 0.3 of a second?
And the Waldner service is 'probably' perfect from the perspective of the opponent who would 99% of the time be standing to the left of that camera angle.

I know you love to flog this Igor and thats a great source of entertainment for many of us but honestly, if you actually gave some thought to the rules, instead of Gestapo like delighting to enforce them, you'd see that sometimes it's as if the rules are made by people who've never even played Table tennis!
