Even though she playing for Wales she uses the same coach as the England/Great Britain coach. It’s an unusual system where both the England and Great Britain coach is the same so if there were players playing for Scotland or maybe Northern Ireland etc they probably use the England/Great Britain coach as well.Hursey guarantees two medals for the UK with her performances in XD and WD. Congrats!

I wonder if there is a conflict of interest with this same coaching scenario. It’s definitely unusual but makes sense. I wonder if England and Great Britain are under the same organisation in a way so they could also coach players from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The rub here is that table tennis is an Olympic sport and for Britain, most of its relevance is governed by the Olympics. This is an ITTF event, but as an Olympic sport, this is a medal for Britain and will be advertised as such by the UK and its constituents. She wins the medal for Wales but since it is an Olympic sport, she is elevating the medal hopes of the United Kingdom/Great Britain as an Olympic prospect.there is no UK or GB here, Anna represents Wales.
Under ITTF, there is no member association called UK or GB, it is called England, Wales, Scotland, etc
There is no conflict of interest from ITTF side, because anyone can sit on that bench, provide pre-match, the name is given in.
Whether the MA allow its members to sit for another country is up to that MA policies.
I have some other countries coach sitting for players that has no coach, and it was also the world championships
ie NZL coach sitting for one of the Island nations that had no coach and the NZL coach was wearing her NZL uniform on that bench too.
They will definitely market this on the news as an athlete (Anna) who could one day win an Olympic medal for Great Britain. If the player was from England I bet there would be no mention of Great Britain at all had they got a bronze medal at the WYTTC like what Anna has accomplished. The rub here is that table tennis is an Olympic sport and for Britain, most of its relevance is governed by the Olympics. In summary, you are right about the facts, but not about the marketing/optics. You will find her win advertised on anything to do with Britain not just Wales.

I'm waiting to see who will advertise GB table tennis. They will definitely market this on the news as an athlete (Anna) who could one day win an Olympic medal for Great Britain. I feel so bad for Kef.... If he loses this, he will have nightmares of all those points in game 6 yhat cost him the match and wonder wherher he was cursed... up 3-0 and now fighting to stay alive...
It's not that rare, especially at junior levelsIt very rear someone losing after 3:0 lead
Its a good question. I will leave that to the British to answer as every culture prefers to speak for itself. They will definitely market this on the news as an athlete (Anna) who could one day win an Olympic medal for Great Britain. I don't think the frequency matters honestly, I am sure Kef must be a bit broken, he was always in it, just lacked the diversity to change when his main weapon was no longer scoring as easily. It's not that rare, especially at junior levels
SCOOOTLAAAAND !! FREEEEEDOOOOOOM !!!I'm waiting to see who will advertise GB table tennis.

Where are our GB users who can shed some light?
