TT-Japan EU Orders: VAT/IOSS Experience and Carrier Handling Fees

Has anyone ordered from TT-Japan recently while living in an EU member state?

The website only provides shipping estimates, so I am looking for clarity on the final shipping costs and the overall customer experience. Regarding import fees: I understand that customs duties generally apply only to orders exceeding €150, but I am unclear on the VAT (Value Added Tax) collection process.

Did you have to pay VAT upfront at checkout, or was it charged upon arrival by the courier? Any insights into the total landed cost would be helpful.

I have made an order around 35€, shipping was 20€, so 55€ with shipping. Total was around 65-70€.
I think there is around 21% VAT. This was in 2022, maybe there is cheaper shipping now or the VAT Is changed also.
The VAT you pay on delivery.

I ordered two Yasaka rubbers, one pair of Nittaku shorts. The total came up to 90 eur, shipping was maybe 10-15, customs free paid via DHL was 20-30 eur. Basically it took longer and was more expensive than if I ordered directly in German shops.
Customs is really ugly in Germany, idk what it Looks Like in other EU states when receiving Japanese packages.
I also bought a Blade for 170 eur on eBay, shipping was included and customs 40€.

Yes the courier takes your money, if you are not home they will leave a card with adresss so you go there to pay.
we used to have this system here but government decided it was too expensive and time consuming to run. Now big business like Amazon , ebay ,Aliexpress etc. collect the tax on behave of the government and small packets simply get through custom without being taxed.
