No choppers can stop a well-oiled ZYL. Can't wait for Hashimoto to come back.

Can't be on a modern TT webboard without Google Translate on at all times - no wonder people still report posts not in English...

It's literally rule number one, in bold:

  1. All posts must be written in English.

But that's just one example of selective (non)enforcement going on; the same person is making posts calling players "Asperger's guy"* and "Pig"** without so much as a peep from you.

The rules have been due to be updated for a while, and I am hopeful that the process will be closed out soon.. Those rules were written in the MySpace era or something like that and don't account for a lot of things that have changed. Usually, and I have said this when you reported a similar post, I cut some slack because most browsers enable you to translate posts written in other languages - I actually edited a post that you reported to contain the English translation. The platform is becoming increasingly global as well. That said, this exchange has raised a point that might need to be made to others reviewing the rules and I might consider adding to the rules a stricter English policy and a justification for it..

Posts have been reported and I have taken action as necessary. Sometimes, when I read a post and construe it as breaking a rule obviously, I can take unilateral action. But that doesn't mean I am perfect or that my interpretation is the only one that work, so relying on me to see a post as you do just because I likely read it may not be the best way. That is why I encourage you to report any post that you think is a violation. It doesn't mean that I will agree but it means that I will at least try to read it and see whether I agree with you or not. I have even had people report posts and because they didn't list a specific objection, I didn't know what rule they thought was being violated. But after they reported it again and did specify, I addressed it.

As always, there is a moderation team that includes myself, @Dan, @Giangt , @NDH and @UpSideDownCarl. You are free to raise all these issues with any of them as well.

Thank you.

Seems like a good amount of today's matches ended up with close ultimate scorelines but for large parts of the matches they didn't feel all that closely contested.

ZQH up 2-0 vs LJK then ties it up 2-2, Qihao takes the final game

XP 11-6, then 2 for Sidorenko (5, 7). then XP takes last two games (-9, -8)

Polcanova up 2-0 (-4,-6) then Abraamian gets 2 (-7, -5) then Polcanova 11-5 in g5 (didnt watch this one yet)

Shinozuka up 2-0 (-6, -5) then Oh gets 2 (-4, -9) and close final game for shinozuka

Odo vs Zeng... 6, -7, 6, -8, 6

XF last two games 11-4, 11-4 to win 3-2.

Yokoi vs Xunyao 3-2 (-6, 6, 4, -10, 6) - Yokoi was unrelenting in this one

Togami up 2-0 (-7, -8) and cruising, then HYZ 3 in a row (albeit last two games were close in score at 11-9 each)

Anders and CJS had the feeling of a good contest. Many of the above matches were enjoyable too.

----

next round we look forward to...

polcanova vs yubin
kuai man vs sato
xp vs gauzy
wen ruibo vs lind
qihao vs shinozuka
xue fei vs harimoto
LDS vs Dima
Batra vs ZYL
Pucar vs Calderano (just how good is Tomislav Pucar?!?!?)

... among others...

As I said, it's literally rule number one - a rule that @UpSideDownCarl has explicitly reiterated and enforced, e.g.

I did explicitly state that was the reason for the report. And the only reason I mention it here is because you decided to make a snide reference to said report, in public, on a non-related thread.

As for some of the others you mentioned, @NDH has only been on here one day since the 13th of December, and @Dan hasn't replied even once to DM's initiated on the 5th of December.

Ah I get it now, its okay. You are not the only one who has issues with untranslated stuff and who had reported unttanslated stuff. And in fact, I am thinking I should just rigorously enforce it. Sorry that you felt I was referring to you in particular with my comment. I explained why I didn't enforce the rule though I did edit the post with an English translation and I will likely enforce the rule more strictly going forward, partly because of the current situation where someone summarized the post with a theme that was different from that the translated post focused on. I can now see aome of the room it creates for shenanigans given the limitations of activating and using translators.

I also appreciate that reporting one post and not getting the outcome one desires can turn one off reporting posts. That's one of the limitations of a human process.

Feel free to follow up in private exchange if necessary. Thanks.

I'm not gonna just allow that gaslighting to stand.
Ah I get it now, its okay... Sorry that you felt I was referring to you in particular with my comment.
Your literal response this afternoon to my report was:

"Pretty easy to translate using a browser or other translator."

And then you subsequently came to this thread and posted:

No, you did not explain why you were unilaterally choosing not to enforce rule number one. You literally said:

"Pretty easy to translate using a browser or other translator."

When you stop mischaracterizing events in public, I'll stop refuting them in public.

If you want to continue this, do so in private or at least on another thread.

I have pointed out fairly often that the way I might read or mean or intend something can be very different from how you read it. What I was pointing out when I wrote what I wrote about Google Translate was that the article in Chinese had a message that if I had Google Translate on, I would have caught it, but I did not (related to Kao's injury). But I also asked myself why would one translate an article that said that a player was injured with a summary that talked about the player being unable to qualify. So I decided that maybe enforcing the policy was wiser than I initially thought. because somettimes, you can't even trust people when they write a foreign language and translate. That was the whole basis for my comment. You are still caught up on it being tied to your report. That is fine. It was not. If you have an issue with that claim, take it up with a moderator other than myself. I do not want to continue on this thread further explaining myself.

Yes, saying that people can translate the post using Google translate is an explanation. You might not like the explanation, but I try to be as handsoff as possible given prior happenings amongst other things. But maybe this is a case where I should take the rule more seriously and I likely will do so going forward.

If you think I have mischaracterized anything, feel free to open another thread and explain it there. OR to reach out to another moderator. Thank you.

Togami short game being exploited again... but more seriously, is Togami the new Lin Gaoyuan or is Huang the new Liang Jingkun?
tbf his short game wasn't too shabby as before, but the main drawbacks is how to alternate between defense and offense when your opponent has caught up with your rhythm. It's clear that from the 3rd set onwards, Huang didn't fear Togami's tempo anymore and became more tenacious in rallies, that's when Togami became anxious and started to make mistakes
