THE JETLAG MAKES AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE FOR THE LOCALS. ALAS.

Given the table tennis events oftentimes take place in the China and the near asian regions, local Asian residents do always get a huge unmerited advantage over non Asian athletes i. e. Europe, America, Africa. It makes a flagrant injustice on those visiting players, foremost for the adverse medical factors.

How could we level the playing field for all the participants, both the locals and outlanders? Sure, playing international competitions under handicap system, if only on the very early stage, would be the best reasonable answer.

what kind of dumb comment is this? Asians will get jet lag when travelling to other countries to play too. Not all tournaments are in China. And if the players aren't complaining, why should you?

@lodro You shoulda told our dear friend Igor that one day, a long pips player will take charge as ITTF Prez and so will many member nations... and a resolution will pass mandating long pips as the only authorized racket covering.

Igor would luv that.

Feel free to work with a government outside of Asia and bid for more events. Good luck 😇
Yes. This is how a true trouble maker talks. I wish someone would actually do that trouble and convince other national govt to host moar events. viel glück ...

Typical of our vodka loving friend. When he is sober enough, he will come here make a random incoherent comment, just one post, then retreat to his vodka again until next round when he is sober again, he repeats the process. Such is life...

I wonder if you'd find a significant statistical difference if you compared results to European venues

You would find a difference. The NBA has studied this a lot. Basically, the east coast teams flying west are at a slight disadvantage and win-loss stats back this up. Gamblers know about this. You can google it, theres lots of info out there. At the professional level, proper sleep matters, because the differences beteeen a lot of the pros are razor thin. Theres no way being jetlagged and playing an acclimated person wouldnt disadvantage one.
When the world cup is in America, you hear about this a lot, too. Teams arent used to flying distances this big between games.

Global sports manage this just fine, such as Tennis, F1, Rugby, which have far greater travel demand and play far more frequently than Table Tennis does. And they are not playing short games like in Table Tennis in air-conditioned stadiums. If these global pro sports can manage it, then there is no reason for this to be an issue in Table Tennis.

There are some studies that support the notion that westbound travel is easier than eastbound travel. Kind of consistent with my own experience. Whatever the case, it's time to Go East!

Why is jet-lag so much worse when one flies from the UK to China than when one flies from China to the UK?

I wouldn't say table tennis is a particularly travel-demanding sport compared to others...so I don't see this being a pressing issue.
You've never got up at 3am, caught a 2 hour flight and a 4 hour drive to face the absolute ninja that is @latej in his home country....... 😂

Well, in F1 races are 7 days apart if theyre in the same region and only in the same region. Otherwise, they get 14 or over 21 days plus between races. F1 drivers have no league play obligations and are generally rich, so everything is totally different than tt. You probably wont see any of them fly commercial.
Any ex pros around here to talk about how much acclimation time they really get on these long journey to Asia? For instance, Germany to Sing. Is 7 time zones. The recommendation is 1 day rest per hour difference. Did any Europe based player achieve this in Singapore?

The direct flight from Germany to Singapore is a light weight trip in global sports. Professional people do this as a round trip for work these days. And I would rather do that and play table tennis in aircon for a few minutes...then Drive a F1 car with the heat and G forces over several days in Australia, then 5 days later be back on the track in China....Or be the South Africa Rugby team playing a Game in SA, then in NZ, then Back in SA....then in Argentina...in one series...

Jetlag as an excuse in professional sports hasn't been a thing for over 20 years now.
