Any jpen user here tried short pimples? I have a spare dhs 652 that i can try on my 9mm yasaka musashi.
Hi,

It works quite well. 652 has a hard and thick sponge and it is low-spin, so it's harder to use against quality shots. With the 9mm Yasaka, if you hit hard enough to penetrate the sponge, it will have good power. The problem is that, without an inverted rubber on the other side, it's going to be difficult to set yourself up to drive the ball. Your serves won't have much spin and your openers potentially looped back with force.

Personally I prefer using a spinny modern pip with a thin sponge. 802-40 with 1.5mm 35d sponge. When I drive or hit, it bottoms out and has absolutely no spin, but good control. It's a bullet and people block it into their side of the table. But it has enough sponge and grip to provide control and spin in all other situations, which is important. As long as your blade is heavy / fast enough you will have plenty of power, even with this 'slow' pip, because the power will be coming more from the blade. It's a far better option than medium pips for a high-spin (inverted) + no-spin (pips) variation game, as it actually has control, and medium pips don't.

I just glued the fastarc g1 and holy shit, it's so fast and bouncy. Definitely the fastest blade I've ever owned.
I may want to slap on a rubber that's a little slower, a hybrid but am tempted to put a skyline or hurricane to see how it behaves
For this reason, being your first hinoki 1 ply (10 mm), I recommended you to use a 2.0 rubber.

Now that I have improved my technique, I am playing whith MX-K 2.1 and I am enjoying a lot. I bought 3 sheets because it is very difficult to find this rubber. But I am pretty sure I will never try the professional version (around 2.3)
Note in korea most of the jpens I met are using now dignics 05, some of them use MX-K and other rubbers.

Also having tried Rakza 9 just before... I do not recommend it to you (too much direct) because 1 sided players need more curve or be incredible good to guarantee you touch always on top.

So, if you continue with max, then improve your technique and in the meantime use a slower rubber.

Yeah, I was expecting this to be fast, but didn't expect it to be THIS fast.
I am blown away by how fast this setup is.
How long did it take you to get the technique down?

Honestly, I think even the baracuda would be too fast on this blade lol.
I haven't played with it yet, but just bouncing a ball on this setup scares me.
I expect to overshoot everything for a couple of weeks
What did you expect lol? Butterfly's own blade matrix puts it well clear of their Super ALC and ZLC blades. And the Garaydia is at the opposite end of the scale!

If you're a close-to-table player it's not the most conventional choice. But 2.0 thickness would be preferable. It's also quite difficult to adjust to other blades once you're adapted.

I just finished playing around with my robot and serving. Obviously, robot training is waaay different than an actual opponent or multiball partner, so who knows how I'll do next time I go to my club.
The blade behaves exactly like everyone said it would, it's such a unique feeling.

I started by serving to see if the ball would fly off the table, which is what I was expecting. But it didn't. It honestly felt just as controlled as my garaydia when serving. I had to do 0 adjusting.

FH and BH felt great, a few balls to adjust to the power when hitting a little harder and that was it.
Never going back to anything else. It seems as controlled as my old blade, but with a hidden giant power button and more feeling.
And the sound! Like the crack of a whip!
Around 6 months ago I tried someone's Miyabi jpen, and it felt NOTHING like this. But it was 9mm.

The V-Max feeling is unique. Happy for you. Now let's beat some shakehand players with it 😄

I tried a clubmates Miyabi Jpen and the wood quality looked horrible. Felt stiff and solid but lacked the softness and sensitivity of my single ply Jpen blades (Tmax and Vmax). I have an old Musashi (bought circa 2015) that has good feeling but is a bit slow, 10mm is really where its at

This is exactly how it felt. I was shocked how it wasn't fast nor did it have that 1 ply hinoki sound.
I am also really liking fastarc g1. Somehow, Vmax and fastarc g1 feels more controlled in the short game than my garaydia and baracuda.

G1 is pretty special, it has great performance but is not as bouncy or reactive compared to some of its stablemates like Vega Pro, Baracuda. I used G1 and Baracuda for a while in the past and Baracuda was always bouncier and more sensitive than G1 for me, I liked it on bh better.

This was my experience when I actually played at my club with the new setup. Fastarc g1 allowed me to return serves more effectively. I hated that my baracuda was so spin sensitive.

Do you guys use edge tape on your 1 ply?
If you do, what measurement? 12mm or 10mm?

No edge tape. I find it leaves behind a sticky residue on removal and doesn't really do much for me anyways in terms of keeping the rubbers from peeling or preventing damage to the blade edge

I just took mine off, and it left a residue as well.
I removed some of the glue, but it still looks discolored.
Any way to safely remove the discoloration?

Try a dense piece of polystyrene and/or a pencil eraser.

12mm Super Shock Guard. Nittaku
(It adds some protection. I invariably hit it on things accidentally. But it does splinter the edge and leave sticky residue if you care about that. I don't care as long as it's not broken and plays well!)
