CTTA had a hard time to re-schedule the national championships [1/2 (doubles/team and singles) below] and CTTSL [3 /4/5 (1st leg/2nd/finals) below] between ITTF/WTT events (just settled with it on 7/2). As per usual, they want to make time for a month-long closed training ahead of Aichi-Nagoya 2026 in Sep, to be followed by ATTC 2026 in less than a month.

Champions Yokohama is 3 days and Europe Smash is a week after the 2nd leg of CTTSL 2026. Too close to be viable.

Sato beat DN twice in 2019. What happened to her afterwards? Miki House literally put her on the back-burner for several years. Both Sato and to a lesser extent Hashimoto are still under their sphere of influence. So no chance unless they can get their WR up and within striking distance of the top 3.

The Japanese men's national team has a maximum of five spots available.

Matsushima Teruaki (individual/world rank 3rd), winner of the All Japan Championships, and Tanaka Yuta (first/world rank 99th), winner of the domestic selection tournament in May, have already secured their places on the team. Uda and Shinozuka are now competing for the remaining spots based on world rankings.

Other strong contenders include Harimoto Tomokazu (world rank 5th, Toyota Motor Corporation) and Togami Shunsuke (world rank 14th, Imuraya Group).

The WTT Champions Yokohama, which begins on August 4th, is likely to be a crucial match that will determine the outcome of the national team selection. Coincidentally, Uda's first-round opponent is Shinozuka.
