Different Hurricane results based on boosting procedure

The topsheet was not shiny after I performed the boosting procedure without using the foil. I did not test the tackiness before boosting because that would have required gluing the rubber to the blade beforehand.

After boosting, the topsheet was able to hold the ball for a few seconds.

It seems reasonable that the tackiness would decrease slightly after boosting. As the sponge expands, the topsheet is stretched over a larger surface area, meaning there is less of the tacky substance per unit area (e.g., per square centimeter) in contact with the ball.
what is the tacky substance? is it only on the top most layer of the rubber? or is it the whole rubber itself that is tacky? genuinely asking because i have no idea. if its just on the top layer, then your deduction would be reasonable, but if its the whole rubber itself, then it would have to be a different factor right?

That's actually a good idea! Still not sure how you can measure the absorption per square inch (or CM) on the actual sponge. I guess what i'm trying to say, there's no way to do an exact replica of a boost. you can have two of the "same" hurricane rubbers and use the same amount of booster and each of those rackets might have a slightly different feel. IMO, boosting is an art, not a science lol.

Yes that is correct, the procedure only measures the amount applied to the entire sponge, not individual areas of the sponge.
I agree that many other factors impact the result, but amount of booster applied is likely the most important.
Applying the same amount should increase the probability of the results being similar.

You can't really compare the version you get from regular sellers and pro gear
I understand, but this post was also never to compare real professional rubbers to rubbers available on the market, but more so changing the characteristics of the topsheet of the rubbers based on the boosting procedure. Based on stretching the topsheet to lose stickiness but gain grip and hardness/improve tension. It also seems like since the discussion earlier in the post cooled down, more people have experienced the same results as I documented.

My new hurricane 3 neo provincial 40 after 2 thin layers of haifu yellow wasn't sticky anymore, the stickness just fully disappeared. I boosted without the protective film.
Have you boosted other sheets in the past of same hardness with film on, and feel any difference in it’s playing characteristics after this?

I thought you're trying to compare your results with An's picture... lol sorry :p

I think the original post makes perfect sense. I personally bost with the protective sheet on, because I want to minimize the contamination of the top sheet.

Don’t see anything strange with that a stretched topsheet would react differently.

My result has been very predictable.
Next time I will attempt to remove it.

Cheers

I have only boosted H3 OS Commercial, with same boosting process - but the stickness remain on the rubber after boost.

The one without stickness works better than the one being sticky after booster or there is no difference?

Guys I left to use H3 no matter if it's National because the horrible & very bad QC. Better to pay for QC using BTY D09C if you like sticky rubbers.
I've only gotten 1 bad sheet thus far, having gone through probably 20 blue sponge ones, both national and provincial. I recently glued up the 2nd one of the 2 H3 BS nationals I bought at the same time, the 1st one was the bad sheet with no tack. I boosted the 2nd one the same way, with the protective sheet off, and it's tacky like I'm used to. They're probably from the same batch so I had assumed that it'd be another bad sheet, but glad it wasn't.

With that said, I've yet to get a bad sheet of D09C, and I've had probably a dozen sheets of it. Also, with H3s even with the good sheets the tackiness can vary a bit. So yeah, the QC for DHS is indeed pretty annoying. However, D09C doesn't play the same, it's just so much easier to counter loop with H3 and the short game is a lot easier. It may not matter much to very high level players, but for most amateurs it can be pretty valuable.

I owned both rubbers so you are right aren't the same but I hate DHS H3 variations because I like a lot the consistency when playing so can get more consistency using no variations from D09C, BTW I like more boosted Nittaku Fastarc G-1 than both rubbers.

I ordered a Rxton 9, gonna see if matches H3 in function. If so I might switch to Loki to see if QC is better. It's comparable in price to H3N provincial, so pretty expensive for a Chinese rubber. I've got high hopes for it.
