Partner skipped today, so no hitting video, but I managed to film some serving. :) Had to throw most of it away due to people in frame or other issues, but here's what I could get:

Not really happy with any of it, but it is what it is. At least the half-long ones were mostly low, but spin quality is very low.

And some reverse. I still don't really have it down or know what I'm doing at all. Feel free to critique if you think you see my major issues.

Simplest way to test spin quality is with a straight backspin serve - probably not the best serve to fool anyone, but it is the simplest way to understand whether you have the right way to generate massive spin on the pendulum serve. If you can get the ball to come back to the net or to roll back to you on the floor, then you obviously has what it takes. If not, then you have work to do.

I can get it to roll back past me on long serves, not quite on short ones, but it'll come about halfway. Ghost serve is easy too. Most of these are top, though. (Looked at the ones I uploaded again and there's not that much pure top in there, more like light back/side which turns into light top after opponent's bounce)

Just wasn't feeling it today, so focused more on height and depth. Ironically I won more games due to that because I wasn't getting my own spin back as heavily. :)

Played a tournament today(Saturday). Originally I had planned to train and prepare for it but I haven't had much time for table tennis. That said I didn't want to leave the organizer completely dry and I tend to enjoy the effort I exert at tournaments regardless of the results so I played only one event. I got placed into a group with 3 other players that had all beaten me before and was the #2 seed.

First match was against the D player, a very aggressive player. I lost the first game 11-4, trying to implement a style that was inspired in part by Craig Bryant trying to teach Josy Neumann how to consistently drive spin. I then got closer with the style in the next game at 12-10, realizing that not having played a competitive match all week after quitting Sunday with an injury was not going to cut it. Then I won the next two games 11-5 and 11-7 and I was back in the groove. Went up 5-1 and 7-3. Then something flipped and I couldn't score points anymore. Took a time out at 7-6 but still lost the final game 11-8. A bummer but so be it, you can't complain when your training is insufficient.

Played a kid next that had beaten me once in his home club, he was the top seed in the group but the last time we played, I had beaten him really badly. He had developed a nasty topspin kicker which he had used to beat the C player. So when he played me, he used this topspin kicker repeatedly. Unfortunately for him. I was willing to consistently come over the side top with a hook or a fade and attacked the vast majority of these serves for outright winners. He didn't back off using them so while it wasn't always smooth, I beat him 3-0. He had improved a lot of things but the score wasn't really encouraging for him so I didn't mention it. For example, I used to be able to serve long backspin to his backhand and get errors but he opened on them with heavy spin, while my prior struggles with him was that he didn't spin the ball.

Last match was against a player that I have played a lot of practice matches with but since we haven't played in a while, he was back to struggling against me playing a different style and trying to relearn my serves and how much backspin I put on them again. That got me a 2-0 lead. He adjusted in game 3, but I managed to close it out after a tight battle in game 4. Since the kid beat everyone except me, I came out #1 in the group.

In the next round, I played a guy who used Hurricane on forehand and had interesting serves. He struggled with my serves and attacks initially, but got better as the game went on. I won the first game 11-8 and second game 14-12. He went up 10-5 in the 3rd game, and I got it to 10-9 but still lost, The last two games were not interesting as he managed to bring back my attacks and I couldn't sustain them. This I will have to work on to take my style to where I want to take it.

All in all, a decent day for not having played all week. Going to lose rating points but not my concern, I will get those back in the right event and if I play sharply enough to get my style where I Want to get it to.

Still have the Persson Power Play bats and will not abandon them, but I am committing myself to 6 months of the Waldner Legend Carbon.

The handle on that blade is so damn right, makes it so much easier to use my fingers.

Will see what the next 6 months bring me. So far, I play same consistency or a little better, especially on high energy shots.

It's amazing what using a single racket can do. I start to notice other things again, like how my core has the power of cooked spaghetti, and how I use my limbs and just balance my body on my spine

I say this jokingly, but it's an issue that runs through my life, focusing on the details and neglecting/forgetting/ignoring the solid base needed to be successful. In anything.

Table tennis is life, boys and girls. Peace out

Thanks a lot for the offer though I think that my tricks still have a big room to improve. And thanks for the generality which hopefully opens some people's eyes that table tennis is not just about power, smashing, or winning on the table.
@kindof99 , @JustANoob ,

PM me the blade you want (which might not be the blade you get, but you will get something). Provide mailing address details.

Thanks.

Well, this is my first time posting here, but I had bought a Xuperman Super S1 CPen Blade with Xuperman Powerplay-Xb 41° and Xuperman Powerplay-Xr 38° (both boosted with Haifu Seamoon 2) and it just felt really weak. My main setup at the moment is DHS W968 CPen with JOOLA Hugo Calderano Trinity Charged and JOOLA Hugo Calderano Trinity Dynamic (both boosted with Haifu Seamoon 2) and I just get so much power with it, even the blade itself is just more powerful. This is my 2nd Xuperman blade I tried and I think I've just come to conclusion that Xuperman and I are not compatible 😢

I am planning on steering away from the JOOLA Trinity rubbers in a few weeks because both rubbers are very heavy, 57g Charged and 55g Dynamic, and even though the weight isn't much of an issue, I notice I play better when my setup is at a certain weight for Cpen. I am planning on revisiting Butterfly Zyre-03 2.7 and then also planning on trying out the Stiga Helix Platinum 55°. I plan to stick with these rubbers (got them for good prices on PROTT, coming out roughly $79 per rubber since Zyre-03 has a small sale at the moment, and this also includes postal charge) for a few months to get adjusted since I usually play with DHS rubbers. I have tried out Zyre-03 a few times and I didn't really have to adjust much from Hurricane, except the speed is much faster, blocking is harder, and short game is worse.

Ordered a DHS B2 and Loki W81 Inner. Too many blades for someone like me, but whatever, it's off season, I can EJ. When I was younger I had no choice due to lack of funds, but now I can justify it. My good deed is that I sell off my old gear to people who need it for very nice prices.

I used the 5X Inner for a good 3 months or so and came to the conclusion that the handle just isn't the best for me and I wouldn't mind a blade with better wood. Sometimes it feels a bit like a mattress spring. Overall not very enthusiastic about Sanwei blades and rubbers which is a shame although they're probably the most cost-performant ones out there.

I wouldn't normally have changed so soon, but I treated the handle with silicon oil and polyurethane which was a huge mistake in hindsight. I've tried to scratch some texture into it, but nothing beats the surface feel of wood. Thing also keeps flying out of my hand. If someone knows how to strip any sealant and restore a natural wood texture, do tell.

I do like it on the bottom corners of the handle, so that there's less friction when serving some serves, but it's a huge no for me on the handle itself. Same goes for sanding the surface of the handle itself; only the corners!

yes it sucks; but my own pendulum has sucked forever, i almost never do it in match, i mostly use my deadly BH serve.

But I've not given up. I've been practicing serves more seriously again since the end of summer holidays while in 1st half of year i've almost totally stopped it due to injuries notably (not that i couldn't serve but as soon as i recovered from one injury after one other, i wanted to have fun and practicing serves is not so fun for me)

I really want a "normal" spin serve, because i use mostly BH and my other serve i use most is YG (= reverse pendulum). But I'm practicing now also the Alexis Lebrun wipeshield serve which i find easier to do that pendulum and its much more easy to recover as well. as not many people do it, it may be more confusing for the opponent too.

---
why can't i serve pendulum ? its mostly because for some reason i cannot fully explain, my racket tends to slow down at contact. i think its because i want to use (too much) wrist but it makes timing more difficult, same if swing is big . sometimes im not even hitting the ball. Also in match, i want to recover quickly but that makes my body move while the serve is not entirely finished cleanly, so im adding random movement to serve execution which makes it uncontrollable.

When i do BH serve which is my best serve; i don't use much wrist so i don't slow down my swing. its also possible because toss is lower than with pendulum.

So now, i'm trying to change my approach. focusing on putting quality first and height, not paying too much attention on putting max spin, and replacement at the moment also i accept not to use much wrist. but i want to be able to throw the ball reasonably high and get more confident at it, and hit the ball lower with a FAST swing. that will make for the absence or little use of wrist. i try not to change the angle of the racket either. pulling up a little bit at contact for topspin but thats all. Even if its not recommended im trying to learn a variation with a flatter bat angle, parallel to table would be master. i feel its possible to make a lower and higher quality serve and the swing is more like pulling the racket towards me rather than forward. it will generate more extreme side spin and keep ball low. Net error or first bounce error risk is high though. thats why it needs a high toss.

important tip: my coach says that when learning this serve its better to practice to the short FH first, because if one can do it, all the other placements are easier.

When i get more confident, ill try to control length and think of recovery.
Anyway i will not be using it much in competition, like only 20% but in practice match i try to use it 50% or more sometimes

---
as for you Arch, id say its a bit the same, serve is low quality because a) its too high, you contact the ball a bit too early, wait a split second more b) you must have max speed/acceleration at contact.

i remember vividly the last training of last year where i beat 2 very strong teammates and almost beat (matchpoint) the strongest one. but this year results have been shit, plagued with a series of injuries (back > knee > back > hip) which put me totally out of courts a total of 2 months in total. I was way below my best at ITTF World Masters (actually a miracle i could play). Without regular training, i lost feeling and confidence, and lost too many matches which affected my confidence even more. 150+ rating points lost in a short amount of time. - even lost to some kids in summer tournaments !

The only joyful result this year was some team results but i played a minor role as a player.

Nevertheless i don't feel pain anymore, and its been 2 weeks now since i came back from holidays in Europe; i want to get in form first and then exceed my best level.

Working more on serves is only one objective. I've also started lessons with a new coach, who's trying to better my fundamentals. Notably he thinks i've got too many unnecessary movements in my technique (== i need to be more stable), and i was taking the ball a bit too early on both sides. Need to relax more as well and use wrist/fingers more at impact [btw seen on YT a short video of a chinese coach explaining that being compact <> being stiff . You become compact by breathing and relaxing]

After having experimented with him the correct technique, i'm becoming aware of it and I feel already some improvement. On BH at least during exercises i can do it correctly. For FH, its a bit more problematic because there is a coordination problem with my footwork with these changes, and it means i have to be more aware of my position not just focusing on hitting the ball at/near the top of the bounce. but when i hit good FH, i can see now my partners having sometimes problems to block some heavy spin FH which was almost never the case before.

what i find difficult now is to find a balance between trying to stay stable, and be able to keep on moving. my brain is wrongly thinking being stable = stay stiff

yday and today i finally felt that i was starting to be able to play at times some good TT after so many sessions where i felt like sh%t so bad i almost wanna quit...

I think it’s good to have one pendulum and one reverse spin serves. If you have problems with pendulum, I found most people have are due to timing and how they toss the ball. And people have problems trying to create spin and speed at the same time. You need to practice them separately first before doing them both

Yes definitely my toss is unstable and it’s a big factor. Also I am not calm when I do this serve. So now I change . I don’t care about the result . I just do it and try to get better at it little by little . I am not expecting instant improvement any more

If you keep not contacting the ball for your pendulum, one possibility is you toss the ball too far away from your body (paddle) and maybe too vertical. You should almost toss the the ball towards your paddle (legit serves), and your paddle holding hand just do the spinning action. And turn your hip a little bit to get the speed and meet the ball
