I don't know what Togami lacks that he can't perform better in the WTT. He is definitely Top10 material, but often fumbles important matches. His short game is very underrated, I would argue he is top3 in that regard, his power is just insane...mental problems?

Bad decision making, inability to win "easy points", lack of variation.

Top 3 short game is not a very reasonable opinion lol even if you're being generous...

Bastian Steger has very impressive results for someone 45 years of age.
One of my favorite players to watch even if completely the opposition of everything I can do lol.

Come on, @ajtatosmano2 , Togami tries to win with overwhelming athleticism, the variation is clearly missing, but he is working on a lot of these things with his current coach for sure. I suspect if this was on the WTT tour, the CNT coaches would have told Fan what to do and it wouldn't have gone 5 games. That said, Fan has a way of sometimes going toe-to-toe with physical players without trying to outsmart them and it doesn't always work out for him as he would like. Remember that Joao Geraldo once had match points on him in a team match. Yes he was younger, but Fan in TTBL has that same vibe, I can outrally you so I don't have to push perfectly etc. The CNT usually beats you by testing you in short short, so Fan by not doing that gives up a lot of edge, which he can compensate for, but in that case, days like this will happen sometimes.

Really loving his backhand and generally his way of playing, he seems to be doing every stroke really pleasing for my eyes (no idea if they are really perfect technique by the book - never been even in proximity of tt coach). I hope he can keep this form

I remember watching him on the ittf circuit 20 years ago, he was a solid top 30-40 in the world ranking and he seems to really have retained pretty much all his skills and movement.
I really like his big backhand, whilst his forehand is not entirely pleasing to my eyes.

I agree with the first two, I just don't know the reason for it. He seems like an intelligent guy, so I thought it might be due to getting tunnel vision from the pressure.
But I would trust him playing short-short against anyone in the world.

He gets to play in Almaty and put that short game to work...

We're probably so far off on our short game assessment I don't know what else to say... WCQ, Felix, Sora, LYJ, Dang, Tomokazu, Truls, and Jha all come to mind as having far superior short games...I am probably missing a few...

Maybe banana flick counts as having short game? Maybe we are focused on short push and he is focused on over the table strokes...
