The whole games organization is a total mess. It’s all over the news. No more hotel rooms. Athletes stuck on container boats if they’re lucky else they’re still at the airport. Bus drivers are imported new interns who don’t know the city and drive athletes to the wrong venue. There isn’t enough food etc

But what is going on with Japan ? It’s become a 3rd world country in so little time

I'm excited for the conspiracy theories on this one, but I wonder what actually happened, surely they could have paid for a smaller passenger plane or something?

DHK has not much good to say about Aichi-Nagoya 2026 when compared to Hangzhou 2022, where the EO would humor requests and address complaints, however unreasonable they might have been.

Why do you think I've "dissed" Japan, especially Takaichi Administration and noted where the Japanese people are heading?

Takaichi has let go of the only China-friendly (now-former) Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications 林芳正/HAYASHI Yoshimasa from her second Cabinet. That's diplomatic suicide.

Cricket is the 2nd most popular sport and this was going to be their accomodation originally. Look at how cramp it is for 2 people and theres no way they can fit multiple luggages and their cricket gear too especially if 2 people stay in this room.

With Japan being an advanced country theres no way the athletes should be staying in these type of rooms. China and India would have provided better accomodation than this and these 2 countries would have been judged the most if the accomodation was like anything like the Japan Asian Games currently.

Gender equality to the max, where male and female were assigned the same room because the EO simply took into account the number of athletes, e.g. 5 men and 5 women would get 5 twin rooms (no way double rooms?).

But guess what? Same room for Japanese coaches and male and female athletes... (I feel better now)

名古屋亞運住宿安排續捱批 有男女獲分配同一房間

(有片)名古屋亞運會亂象叢生 最受影響的是日本自己|時事點睇
https://www.dotdotnews.com/s/202609/18/AP6aad34e2e4b02724bdb4e4e3.html

(The organizers initially estimated an attendance of around 15,000 people but ultimately had to accommodate over 17,000. This surplus of 2,000 people was not the result of a natural disaster, but rather a failure in planning. The primary cause was the organizers' decision to cut costs without making adequate preparations. These issues reveal that the organizers prioritized cost-saving and showcasing an eco-friendly model over the athletes' fundamental needs. While the concept of environmental sustainability is certainly worthy of support, it cannot serve as an excuse for arrangements that compromise athletes' sleep, rest, hygiene, and competition readiness.

Japan has long been renowned for efficiency, punctuality, convenient transportation, and meticulous attention to detail. Precisely for this reason, the chaos preceding the Asian Games dealt a severe blow to Japan’s image as a host, rapidly eroding the trust built up over time. The international community will not forget the absurd incidents—athletes unable to sleep properly, waiting in vain for transport, or being dropped off at the wrong locations—simply because the organizers offered repeated bows of apology.

Furthermore, the Asian Games carry significant diplomatic and political weight. When the South Korean delegation described the container-style accommodation as the "worst"—or even the "worst in history"—the situation transcended mere athlete complaints to become an issue of international reputation and diplomacy. While athletes' grievances might be dismissed as emotional venting, a delegation's public criticism constitutes a formal repudiation of the organizers' competence. If the organizers continue to console themselves with the notion that the facilities were "fully functional," they will only appear to lack the courage to acknowledge the problems at hand.)

Japan: No money to spare for Asian Games when we gotta deter China and Russia as America told us. We're the goodies and they're the baddies.

New Takaichi Cabinet Faces Defense-Related Challenges
https://www.nippon.com/en/news/yjj2026091700935/
China and Russia are stepping up their military activities around Japan, prompting Tokyo to speed up work to strengthen deterrence.

The government earmarked about 11 trillion yen in defense budget in fiscal 2025, achieving its goal of raising the proportion of defense spending to gross domestic product to 2 pct two years ahead of schedule.

With the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump urging U.S. allies to increase the proportion to 3.5 pct, however, the Takaichi government faces a challenge of how it should mention the matter in the security documents through the update.
