awesome video, Schlager is inspirational to me and he's doing great things for table tennis in Europe with his academy and the new europe academy. What a hero!

Yes, a hero indeed !
Who knows that great players from his academy will repeat the great European reign over table tennis :D

I think Austrian Army is just like German Army. You have a few month of basic training and then after that there are special programms for promising sportsmen who can train for the sport they are good at all day long. A friend of mine who plays Tabletennis in the second German leaugue did the same in Germany.

Hey

Firstly welcome to the forum :)

Can you give some more information on how the army and sport works out there. Sounds interesting, isnt this what Schlager did?

Hey there and thanks.
First one must know in germany and austria there is compulsory military service. I know that for Example Steffen Mengel a German a 22 year old National Player of Germany still is in the army. The normal routine for talented Sportsmen in the Army should be something around 3 month of basic army training and then swapping to sports training and im guessing this sports training consist of normal p.e. and extra Training which probably is linked to the german tabletennis federation.
I dont know how this exactly works since i dodged the army and worked in a social facility for 9 month instead but i think the Institution is called "Sportfördergruppe" which would translate like something as Sportsupportgroup. Wikipedia says that this Supportgroup exist since 1960 and its there to help German Sportsmen compete with others on a international level and it says atm there are 700 "Sportsoldiers" in 70 different Sports.

hahaha, my friend who is korean, had to go back to Korea to fulfill his military requirement. So he basically had to postpone college for like 3-4 years to go back and enter the military. While there he said he was assigned to the fire department, and since they have a decent amount of time on their hands, he said he played a lot of table tennis and got pretty good.
