how do you do it????????

To all TTD members pls help me!

IF u encounter an opponent that is good with fast serves, what will you do if he serves deep into the BH with a super spinny sidespin? and BTW when i receive it right he still can loopdrive it.
PS:I KNOW THIS IS A NOVICE QUESTION BUT PLS BEAR WITH ME :)

I have encountered this same problem before so u must watch closely for what kind of spin their putting so u can counter it with a fast shot back or u can take a quick step back and give the spin a few seconds to die down before chopping it back with heavy backspin...hope that helps

To me, usually I will either, push with a little top sin back to far left or right of table. But sometime, I will try to initiate the attack right away (which I'm more prefer, but lack of consistency).

I'm the same way lol but the sooner u hit it the more spin the ball will have!

Counter spin it of the bounce with and use ur wrist alot. Just a short wrist movement is enough to play this ball of the bounce, doesnt matter what spin is on the ball. At least thats how I do it.

Quite a problem for me some time ago.
Until I realize that attacking straight away is the key.
If you havent develop consistency in attacking it, then develop it.

The second option is to neutralize the spin and return it short.
To do this, you need to have a good feel of the ball.

Since I use LP on my backhand now, I could just push it or chop it.
Hope this helps :)

Punch it ?
If you could control it well, its a good choice. But you need to punch and neutralise the incoming spin of course.
The harder you punch, the less effect will be felt from the spin esp if your rubber is a hard one.

Like dici said, dont go all out if you want to loop it. Loop it softly (mostly control, not power) and make a good ball placement so your opponent couldnt attack it easily.

Repetition is the key tho. Theoritically its easy yet you need time to learn and master this serve return.
Good luck with your training :D

If you are an attacking player like me..... (if you are right handed), if the serve is wide, take a short side step to your left, drop your bat toward your left knee, play a backhand topspin. Try to make contact with the top left handside of the ball, using the topright hand side of your blade, rotate from your elbow and turn the ball right back into your opponents backhand. This will take some practice, but do not falter with this approach - be positive, be strong!

If it is possible, you just flip the ball where he wants it into his forehand. Then you can get ready to push the loop with your backhand, then go 2 steps back and wait for a chance to loop with lots of power. But then again, it depends on your style of playing ;)

if its long fast and sidespin you should be looking to attack 100% of the time, it's something you should practice if you play him regularly. A short drive backhand could be appropriate for placement or a backhand loop with a shorter backswing just to brush over the top of the ball, important to try and anticipate the ball so you can move quickly and ensure you can take advantage of trying to use placement, most fast serves will take away enough time that the opponent is forced to return to a set area of the table, so anticipate, move and take advantage of the opportunity to open first and place :)

Hi Poltery, I understand what pingpongpom is saying. First and foremost, u must understand the nature of sidespins. of course when u loop from the back of the ball, the ball will tend to go to your right, but if you hit/brush the ball somewhere in the region on top of the ball, there are less spin (on top of the ball) which will give you more control (you must be positive when you hit it, don't push)
Because of your height, you may find it a little difficult to hit on top of the ball on your BH, so try and do what I normally do. Though I am 181cm, I would compensate by aiming my BH topspin to my left side (his right), OR more often I would just step over to my forehand and give the ball the full treatment. It requires excellent footwork, but if you master it, in no time he will start changing his serve (plus improving your footwork in your overall game). Try it, you'll be surprise.

thx sir azlan, yup i am small but can i just step back and brush the ball before it gets to its falling point? I think that topspin can raise the ball to net height right?

Exactly buddy, naturally the ball will tend to rise (coz i'm sure he has a little topspin with the side - for him to attack the 3rd ball). So you don't really have to open up your racket head...ask your buddies to feed you with that kind of serves, and you may surprise him when the next time you meet. Goodluck lil buddy:)
