https://rallys.online/topic/wttc/260508mkoreanplayerscomment/

── It seemed like Liang Jingkun and Lin Shidong had done quite a bit of analysis. How did that feel in the match?

Jang Woojin: I think they had analyzed me quite a bit. They had prepared very detailed strategies against me, and I don't think I was able to control the match well from the beginning of the first game.

Also, even though I thought I had gained some experience, I felt that I need to get more used to this kind of atmosphere.

(A changed China, still fought well against the high ‘Great Wall’! Korea finishes quarterfinals at the London World Table Tennis Championships)
https://www.thepingpong.co.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=12577

(After the match, despite their disappointment, the players expressed their intention to use this tournament as an opportunity for growth. Captain Jang Woojin said, “Junsung created a really good flow, but I feel sorry that I made the team atmosphere heavier by collapsing easily in the second match,” adding, “I will use this experience to prepare for the Asian Games and the Olympics to achieve better results in the future.”

Oh Jun-seong also said, “It is regrettable that we couldn’t score points even though we went to a full game against Wang Chuqin,” and added, “If we use this match as valuable data and prepare more meticulously, an opportunity will come someday.” Ahn Jae-hyun also stated, “It is disappointing that I couldn’t execute the flow that was created well in front of me,” and added, “I will prepare better next time to ensure we can win a medal.”

Head Coach Oh Sang-eun explained, “Compared to China or Japan, we are still lacking in speed,” and noted, “We need to reinforce our speed and finer play.” He continued, “We will strengthen our weight training, stamina, and detailed tactical preparation before the Asian Games and take on the challenge again.”)

Yummy Korean meal provided by KTTA...

https://www.munhwa.com/article/11587826

(The on-site support provided by the Korea Table Tennis Association (KTTA) played a significant role in the potential Korean table tennis demonstrated in London. The association took care of various aspects during the tournament to ensure the players could focus on their performance even in an unfamiliar environment.

A prime example was food. Although the accommodations provided by the organizing committee included breakfast, lunch, and dinner, they were insufficient to meet the players' tastes and match schedules. Therefore, the association provided Korean packed lunches and utilized nearby famous restaurants for dinner. In particular, after matches ended late at night, they made advance reservations at nearby restaurants to ensure the players could eat immediately, securing a separate meal for them. Oh Sang-eun, the head coach of the men's national team, said, "When competing overseas rather than in Korea, adapting to the local environment is paramount. A hearty Korean meal was a great help to the players."

The close on-site support provided by KTTA President Lee Tae-sung was also a source of strength. Although President Lee arrived in London three days later than the national team, he personally packed the luggage upon hearing that the players were not in good condition. Of the five bags Chairman Lee brought, two contained Korean food that the players could cook or heat up on-site. Furthermore, Chairman Lee took care of the players' daily lives to ensure they could focus on maintaining their performance even in an unfamiliar environment. He personally visited nearby supermarkets to prepare water and beverages for the players and purchased various snacks. This is why Chairman Lee is referred to as the "Daddy-Long-Legs" helping Korean table tennis both inside and outside the team.

Women's national team head coach Seok Eun-mi said, "The association provided packed lunches when we were short on food, and the Chairman and officials continuously encouraged us. We received a lot of encouragement even though we didn't perform well in the beginning. I felt apologetic, but I also felt a strong sense of responsibility to do better. This tournament made me realize that it belongs not just to us, but to the entirety of Korean women's table tennis."

Moreover, Chairman Lee did not stop at on-site support. He worked tirelessly to expand exchanges for Korean table tennis, meeting in succession with key figures in the international table tennis community both inside and outside the stadium, including Petra Sørling, President of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF); Pedro Mora, President of the European Table Tennis Union (ETTU); and Wang Liqin, President of the Chinese Table Tennis Association.

Having concluded the World Championships schedule, Korean table tennis now turns its attention to the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. Korean table tennis gained something in London: the experience of defeating China, the potential for a generational shift, and the association's support system backing the team. Attention is now focused on what results the changes Korean table tennis made in London will bear in Aichi-Nagoya.)

https://www.thepingpong.co.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=12573

(▶ Although China lost to us in the seeding league of this tournament and also lost to Sweden, they remain the strongest team in the world. There is a possibility that Wang Chuqin will be fielded in the quarterfinals. However, our players' condition is not bad. Even if Wang Chuqin joins the team, the most important thing is to do our best with what we can do. I always tell the players to be faithful to the process rather than the result. If we do that, good results will follow. The match against China will be held on the 8th at 12:30 PM (local time). We will prepare well during the remaining day and focus on what we can do on the day of the match.

▷ What do you see as China's weaknesses that you can exploit in this tournament?

▶ Wang Chuqin is a player who plays very solid table tennis. However, Liang Jingkun and Lin Shidong appeared to be playing under psychological pressure in this tournament. Although Lin Shidong is a player who reached world number one, he seems to be feeling the pressure because he does not yet have much experience in major tournaments like this. As the match progresses, the flow and score that allow us to win the game will inevitably come. When leading by one or two points, the outcome depends on whether we can overtake that momentum or not. If we seize the momentum at that moment, an opportunity may arise. Of course, China will likely come out better prepared for the quarterfinals. However, the tension could also increase accordingly. We must exploit that tension.)

https://www.thepingpong.co.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=12578
(The Korea Table Tennis Association devoted its efforts to supporting the team on-site. It operated an intensive training program at the Jincheon National Training Center and a local support system , and when local food in London did not suit the players' tastes, it airlifted Korean lunch boxes daily to help manage their physical condition. Various forms of support were provided to ensure the national team could focus on maintaining their performance even in an unfamiliar environment.)

Not exactly far-fetched.

Other than CNT, Harimoto knew what he was doing, hinting that he saved his strength for the KO stage and timed his peak.

Also see the Tieba comments next.

Tactical Dispositions:...:
Sunzi said: The good fighters of old first put themselves beyond the possibility of defeat, and then waited for an opportunity of defeating the enemy. To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself. Thus the good fighter is able to secure himself against defeat, but cannot make certain of defeating the enemy. Hence the saying: One may know how to conquer without being able to do it.

Tactical Dispositions:...:
To see victory only when it is within the ken of the common herd is not the acme of excellence. Neither is it the acme of excellence if you fight and conquer and the whole Empire says, "Well done!" To lift an autumn hair is no sign of great strength; to see the sun and moon is no sign of sharp sight; to hear the noise of thunder is no sign of a quick ear. What the ancients called a clever fighter is one who not only wins, but excels in winning with ease. Hence his victories bring him neither reputation for wisdom nor credit for courage. He wins his battles by making no mistakes. Making no mistakes is what establishes the certainty of victory, for it means conquering an enemy that is already defeated. Hence the skillful fighter puts himself into a position which makes defeat impossible, and does not miss the moment for defeating the enemy. Thus it is that in war the victorious strategist only seeks battle after the victory has been won, whereas he who is destined to defeat first fights and afterwards looks for victory.

https://ctext.org/art-of-war/weak-points-and-strong
《虛實 - Weak Points and Strong》
Weak Points and Strong:...:
The spot where we intend to fight must not be made known; for then the enemy will have to prepare against a possible attack at several different points; and his forces being thus distributed in many directions, the numbers we shall have to face at any given point will be proportionately few. For should the enemy strengthen his van, he will weaken his rear; should he strengthen his rear, he will weaken his van; should he strengthen his left, he will weaken his right; should he strengthen his right, he will weaken his left. If he sends reinforcements everywhere, he will everywhere be weak. Numerical weakness comes from having to prepare against possible attacks; numerical strength, from compelling our adversary to make these preparations against us.

Weak Points and Strong:...:
Scheme so as to discover his plans and the likelihood of their success. Rouse him, and learn the principle of his activity or inactivity. Force him to reveal himself, so as to find out his vulnerable spots. Carefully compare the opposing army with your own, so that you may know where strength is superabundant and where it is deficient. In making tactical dispositions, the highest pitch you can attain is to conceal them; conceal your dispositions, and you will be safe from the prying of the subtlest spies, from the machinations of the wisest brains. How victory may be produced for them out of the enemy's own tactics - that is what the multitude cannot comprehend. All men can see the tactics whereby I conquer, but what none can see is the strategy out of which victory is evolved. Do not repeat the tactics which have gained you one victory, but let your methods be regulated by the infinite variety of circumstances.

To say that the chinese NT lost on purpose is plain funny, and out of reality. So they waited 26 years and NOW they decided to play their wild card ? which was what? to lose 2 times?

Im ok with jedi mind tricks and I like them, but this is plain stupid.

They just didn't watch the matches. Anyone watching those matches and thinking those players lost on purpose should nominate them for Oscar Awards and build a documentary designed to win Best Documentary at the Oscar's as well lol.

No one is saying they lost on purpose. They didn't play at their max level. Oh Sangeun admitted that as well. LGL actually said something along the same line before Tokyo 2020, whether their players could win at 70%. I still remember the "locker room talk" with a Div A player at the club during World Cup 2010 (after WH beat Boll, IIRC), specifically how CNT players could secure the win by performing at 80%.

TW using Kuo to get Togami? Probably the best choice for them.
Well they have data on Feng vs Togami from TTBL and I suspect it is not good. Gotta take some risks. Even if Lin can win two, they need someone else to win one. But if Harimoto can take the first match, he will end the match immediately lol.

Not playing Wang obviously means they were not at the max level. But what was really dumb on the part of the Koreans was not try to anticipate and replicate any of the successful matchups from that match. Obviously pulling ZQH made it harder but it was something they should have thought about.

I think most of these team focus much more on the win on the first match than what most amateurs can expect. Like the CH vs KR match yesterday, if WCQ lost the first match, it might be a totally different result at the end.

Harimoto can't return against Lin to save his life. Is there a theme about returning vs Lin or is it something else lol....
I don't see it happening for Tomo.
