  1. Vintage Persson Powerplay - worth use?

What a coincident! This very evening, my club’s coach gifted me (ok, 10 bucks, but that’s just charity) his old Donic Persson Powerplay – fitted with Yasaka Mark V and Butterfly Tenergy05 Hard. Very nice to have as backup and rubber-tester.
  2. Returning player (AR+/OFF–) looking for versatile rubbers for Xiom Hugo HAL [no longer: Cybershape Wood]

Thanks again for you unrelenting help! That sounds very sound, will probably go for something like that. Hybrid MK wasn’t discussed yet, but is said to be very very controlled, however not very long lasting(?) Will ask my shop and also consider Vega Pro H as an alternative, supposed to last...
  3. Xiom Hugo Hal from a perspective of a Butterfly ALC User

Ok, sounds very fair. My BH is of course also weaker than FH so far. I am leaning against FH: Xiom Vega X and BH: Vega Europe/Rakza Z/Vega Japan. Don’t want it too catapultt though. And 'cause I’m not that offensive (yet), I’ll start with 2,0 mm.
  4. Returning player (AR+/OFF–) looking for versatile rubbers for Xiom Hugo HAL [no longer: Cybershape Wood]

General question: Is there any reason to start thicker than 1,8mm? Or rather go for 2,0 mm for starters?
  5. Returning player (AR+/OFF–) looking for versatile rubbers for Xiom Hugo HAL [no longer: Cybershape Wood]

You mean, there is no objective truth in answer to my question? :) Seriously though, you have turned out to be a great help to all my inquiries the last couple of weeks. Big thanks!
  6. Returning player (AR+/OFF–) looking for versatile rubbers for Xiom Hugo HAL [no longer: Cybershape Wood]

Ok Guys, this took another turn, and I ended up ordering a used Xiom Hugo HAL yesterday. Used for 30 minutes, glued once, and unsealed. Now I just hope for the best that it is all in that state and that it arrives safely!!! This maybe changes my question a bit on a specific level, but not the...
  7. Xiom Hugo Hal from a perspective of a Butterfly ALC User

So the Vega Korea on BH, because it is softer than Fastarc? I am right now dwelling upon if the best for learning (the game, as well as the blade) is to use identical rubbers (or at least identical top sheets) on FH/BH, or if it is better to find the best for FH and BH separately, leaning...
  8. Xiom Hugo Hal from a perspective of a Butterfly ALC User

Ok, Guys, thank you for all the help. I purchased a used Hugo HAL yesterday, it’s on its way – pray for the best!!! Now just one question, this blade is unsealed . Glued once with Butterfly Chack II and allegedly used only for 30 minutes. My local seller told me there is no real need to seal...
  9. Xiom Hugo Hal from a perspective of a Butterfly ALC User

How do you like the Vega Pro H specifically? I’m thinking of buying HAL and putting this Pro H on my FH, and Vega X on BH. (Or Rakza Z on FH).
  10. New Cybershape from STIGA

Good info. Curious what you find better with Nittaku (is it the all-wood version? – both in regards to CS Wood, but primarily compared to Nittaku? (Acoustic seems to be a smooth operatior for sure.)
  11. New Cybershape from STIGA

Your observation is painfully correct and hits a sensitive spot in my character! Thanks for checking in before the Upgraderitis Virus infects me! However, I must point out that I don’t do this research instead of playing, but rather as a on top of that, and out of curiosity and an insatiable...
  12. New Cybershape from STIGA

Thanks! HAL is intriguing, for sure. Would I miss anything in terms of learning curve or feel, going for it directly? I almost do not feel worthy, haha … What other offensive 5-ply can you recommend? I think I’m looking for the most allround offensive style blade with good feel. I don’t really...
  13. New Cybershape from STIGA

Honestly don’t know if I have any specific style of play, or what my level is, in absolute terms. I’m definitely not a player with a pronounced looping style (wanting to practice it, though), rather pretty all-round with a wish to practice my offensive side, since I tend do back away, getting a...
  14. New Cybershape from STIGA

Thanks for answering. Yes, the HAL looks very intriguing. Would I miss anything – feeling, learning curve – skipping the all-wood? BTW, seems to exist two batches/generations of HAL, which one do you have? Probably doesn’t matter if I didn’t own one already though … Also, did you EJ:ing...
  15. New Cybershape from STIGA

So, a few years later – I find myself in the position of choosing between a very specific selection of blades, one that only you seem to have had! O wrote here on my backgound, but again, very short: I played during my elementary school years, probably 1–2 hours a day for 9 years. Not in a...
  16. My EJ journey hasn't gotten me anywhere until I returned home

That’s what I thought, also. So is 7ply the new 5ply in terms of starter blade? I don’t see much talk about pure wood 7ply, compared to 5ply? Is it because they are normally thicker and heavier? Tibhar Bernadette Szöcs Signature 1 is a 7ply used in real pro life though. On the other side, Hana...
  17. Flared(FL) or Straight(ST)?

Yes! And for me, the feeling of »comfort« or »this will fly out of my hand« only surfaces when gripping the blade off-court. Never during play. Also read somewhere that as most Chinese players start off at a very young age, FL is the only thing their hands can grasp. Then, they just stick to...
  18. My EJ journey hasn't gotten me anywhere until I returned home

I often read on this forum that a 5-ply allwood blade is the ideal starting point. At the same time, I just as frequently see the opposite claim: that in the era of 40+ balls, the classic 5-ply models of the past—Yasaka Sweden Extra, Stiga Allround Classic, Donic Appelgren Allplay, Persson...
  19. Flared(FL) or Straight(ST)?

Generally speaking, it feels like there isn’t much solid research on this. I tried to read up on it quite a bit when looking for a new blade, and I kept running into very confident claims that often contradicted each other. For example, some argue that »ST is better for backhand-oriented players...
