I just made an addition to the "Nerdy Stuff" section on my website about the most commonly used handle materials and their characteristics. Dealing with a lot of customers over the years, I found that there's a general lack of knowledge/confusion about this subject, probably because there isn't...
Ok, first we need to understand why a blade splinters in the first place, and if we need to seal it or not. This wasn't much of a problem back then, it started getting worse after the VOC glue ban, why?
Why does wood splinter?
It's very simple, when you put water on wood it raises the fibers...
Sorry for the clickbait, I couldn't resist [emoji28]
** labels might be misleading, I'm talking about the second layer here, not the core**
I had this conversation so many times that I decided to write a post about it. If you look at the composition of a Butterfly blade online you will see...
My website is finally ready - www.sdcttblades.com
It contains a lot of info on what I do, as well as a small shop with some of my ready made blades. Feel free to visit and leave your comment 🙂
Just wanted to share some photos of a repair job on these two Butterfly Moonbeams. The job was to replace the rusted black tag on the ST one and to change the handle on the AN for an ST, including the plastic and metal tags.
This is the thread I will use to document the building process of Der's blade for the blademaker's challenge.
One thing I learned after some time building blades, is that sometimes the customer is very wrong about what he thinks he wants. This is such a case...
So I decided to give him...
Firstly I just wanna say sorry for the watermark, it seems that there are some people who like to steal my repair pics and claim them as their own.
A friend of mine asked me to fix his old Primorac Carbon that was in storage for some time. The blade was in pretty bad shape with some severe...
This Viscaria needed some love. I could have replaced the whole top ply, but that would mean removing the handle. So, there were more things that could go wrong. The transition is very smooth and a new sealing will prevent more splintering in the future.
I'm selling some of my personal blades, along with some experiments and prototypes. They are all in good condition, some might have minor dings but that is stated in the description.
#157 - Composite: 6 wood + 3 - Off-
This one was the prototype for my asymmetric handle.
Composition: Ako /...
I've been playing back and forth with these blades. I love the control i get with the WSC but miss the speed, with the TB ALC i have the speed but miss the control, i wish it was just a little softer. I've read that Viscaria feels a little softer than TB ALC, is it true?
These are some of the...
Why does this happen?
I have seen this happen in some rubbers, namely boosted rubbers that i peel off the racket after some time. It's understandable because the sponge expanded and then returned to it's original size. But i have a Nittaku G1 that came with significant reverse dome out of the...
This has always been my problem. I find i loose many games just because of my attitude rather than my technical ability. In fact, i'm one of those guys that is very consistent in training, but makes stupid mistakes in actual matches. If i'm in a good day i can stay motivated and and actually...
I'm selling some of the blades i made. They are are good blades in their own right but don't suit my style as well as another one i made. All the blades are sealed.
The price is 30€ per blade, plus shipping. PM for more details.
Blade 1 - Oak/Maple/Western Red Cedar/Maple/Oak - 88.9g - 5.8mm...
I order some materials but they haven't arrived yet, so i had to use some stuff from another projects. These were mainly experiments but didn't turn out too bad, in fact the second one managed to overthrow the DHS301.
I weight all the materials and calculate the density so i can calibrate the...
Being an over thinker as i am, i wanted to see if i could predict the rating of a blade before i build it. So, i decided to make a numerical model of a blade and analyse the results by changing several properties. The shape of the blade and the mechanical properties of the materials are always...
I've started making my own blades. So far i made 2, but they are still missing the handles. That got me thinking on a few things. Has anyone tried these?
1. Making the same blade but with different handle length, or even handles with different lengths on the same blade? Would this work as a way...
Hello!
I'm returning to table tennis (and also ttdaily) after a 4 year hiatus. The last time i played the celluloid ball was still used. I did a couple of training sessions with the new ball and found harder to generate speed and spin so i´m looking to upgrade my old bat. I played with waldner...
Can someone recommend me an alternative to H3? I had several sheets bubbling up with less than a month of use. Tried prov. and the same thing happened. I really like the rubber so i'm looking for something similar but with better quality.
