Xiom don't announce discontinue blades, they just stop being available to their suppliers. Xiom dealers can actually see how many are available when they place an order, and when the number goes to zero, you just can't get them anymore.
This may be a simple supply or material shortage issue...
Speed and quality. The Speed 90 uses the highest quality Kiso Hinoki. I believe the Speed 70 is actually faster, but does not have the feel and control of the Speed 90. I'm sure the 70 would still be a nice blade though.
Although the Speed 90 was discontinued many years ago, dealers could still...
Yes, table tennis wasn't the only one cut, they cut heaps of sports leaving only 10. I appreciate it's probably due to costs, but it makes the whole event a bit of joke IMO.
I found the DHS ones (D40+ or DJ40+) quite consistent, but there's heaps of fakes ones around (you can usually tell by the label), which may account for reports of inconsistencies.
The orange ones are quite decent too.
That's a good question. The Joola Golden Tango (not the PS version) is the tackiest ESN rubber I can think off, and that too appears to be discontinued. A shame, because it is also a very good rubber.
While that's true, it would remove some of the really cool looking serves, serves that are perfectly legal currently, which I feel would diminish the sport somewhat if we made them illegal.
I agree, and the rules are really made for international competition which has an umpire on both sides, so a fault can be detected much more easily.
The rules also state that it's the player's responsibility to ensure that the umpire can ensure that your serve is legal. This is rather silly to...
A great summary, thank you!
I still think those labels should be used most for internal use, and they should give them more meaningful names for market them better. Especially all the numbers mean very little.
What are some of the worst names of rubbers you've seen?
To me the Victas rubber have the worst names, like "V > 20 Double Extra" or "Triple Double Extra". These names are hard to remember, and hard to communicate to others that you might recommend them too. That really doesn't help them. Don't...
Yasaka Mark V, Butterfly Sriver, Donic Coppa are all quite insensitive to spin and decent all-round rubber to keep the ball in play. Most brands would have something similar.
I didn't think that was available anymore, and I don't think it's ITTF approved anymore either. Nothing wrong with trying it anyway, but just making sure you're aware :)
