  1. Editorial: It's hard to know if an equipment change actually makes you better

I am here to attest that switching to the dark side did relatively quickly improve my score against my peers but I found going along that path was not sustainable for my preferred style of play and stamina and for future growth against better players so I switched back. It was fun to also give...
  2. thoughts on Fastarc G1

The Fastarc G1 is the modern day Mark V. People should stop recommending Mark V like meme zombies and recommend the G1 instead.
  3. Long pip rubber for my backhand

I can tell you once I got more used to pimplemini, my rating probably shot up 500+ due to the dark side conversion. I used it more in an offensive manner ala He ZhuoJia or Fukuhara Ai but found out I had too little stamina to keep playing in that manner even though it was probably at the highest...
  4. Long pip rubber for my backhand

Have you considered medium pips for more options to go offensive on the backhand? 563 is affordable and is among the ones I liked. The other is the Nittaku Pimplemini which is darned fun to play with but take a bit more stamina to attack with. Both at 2mm sponge.
  5. Timo Boll vs. Ľubomír Pištej WTTC 2019

Oooh, a full match, decent angle and a non-potato cam. Better download it before it's taken down by ITTF. While we're at it, better download any other interesting videos from the channel too before the TT mafia comes around to shut the channel down.
  6. How to clean a Viscaria Handle?

In my case, my hand does sweat and it soaks into the handles of some blades which causes it to stink over time and my hand to smell after playing. Having a somewhat sensitive sense of smell, this is an issue which I solve with the aforementioned oil finish. The oil finish itself would smell like...
  7. How to clean a Viscaria Handle?

I would use a finish equivalent to Watco's Danish Oil to treat the handle after cleaning rather than a polyurethane based finish as a poly finish will make the handle feel like plastic. An oil type finish will retain the natural texture of the wood.
  8. Hexer grip/powergrip /sfx + new setup

Those stats are an aggregation of subjective numbers based on disparate user impressions. I don't think they are very reliable for comparing one rubber against another. Change one thing at a time. If you have a new faster blade stick with your current BH rubber and see how it works out. If it...
  9. Correct way to return a long under/side spinning serve

Watch pro games like Vladimir Samsonov's games with your favorite players and see how they handle Samsonov's serves which are frequently side under spins.
  10. Has anyone tried the Yasaka Mark V M2 rubber?

For those who use the regular Mark V, how well does it do in opening backhand flicks against short underspin serves and how powerful are it's loops against long pushes and how comfortable is it in off-the-bounce counters against loops. You know, the techniques in modern offensive styles.
  11. Has this happened to anyone?

Time for a new blade and remember to have it lacquered especially if the retailer provides that service. Water based glues are destroying top veneers and selling a lot more blades.
  12. Should I change to short pips?

In my opinion, assuming shakehand, the use of short pips tends to give you fewer options unless you decide to also use it defensively. With advent of plastic balls you can counter and attack off the bounce more effectively. It would be wiser to explore how you can be more aggressive with...
  13. Glasses and Table Tennis

Get your optometrist to adjust the temples and temple tips. It can be a trick to get just right. Too tight and it hurts something, too loose and it slides around. I wear a cotton sweatband under a neck gaiter/scarf I cover my head with and no sweat gets through. You can probably get away with...
  14. Weight After Setup Has Been Assembled

@Tango K, which is why I mentioned using Danish Oil on the handle and not lacquer. Polyurethane based lacquers can make handles feel plasticky when it is cured. Watco's Danish Oil on the other hand keeps the natural wood feel when it is applied according to the instructions and has been wiped...
  15. Weight After Setup Has Been Assembled

Actually, lacquering the blade not only does not change it's characteristics if you are putting on thin layers of lacquer but keeps it's characteristics more stable over time as it helps keeps the water from water based glues from soaking into the wood.
  16. Weight After Setup Has Been Assembled

This is why you lacquer the blade and saturate the handle with Danish oil. Adds about a gram to the handle but keeps the sweat out.
  17. Glasses and Table Tennis

Make sure you get the largest frames that will fit on your face. Those small fashion frames will have a narrower field of view and will not be suitable for sports. I would get titanium frames which are durable, light and very thin. Try to get raw titanium or lighter colored frames because over...
  18. Rubber not sticking to blade

In all seriousness, in my experience the Neottec glue does suck. It is way too thin and does not seem to adhere very well. Perhaps try a different glue and make sure the glue dries clear before putting the blade and rubber together.
  19. Recommendation backhand rubber

Alternatively you could get a lighter blade or a thinner sponge. Some online stores like tt11 or princett will accommodate your request for specific weight for a blade or try to get close. You can buy the same blade you have now except a lighter version. Nowaday I ask for 85 gram blades or...
  20. Dirty Blade Handles?

You can also prevent the handle from getting nasty again after cleaning by treating it with clear Watco's Danish Oil. It retains the natural wood feel unlike poly finishes which can make it feel plasticky.
