  1. Likely Scam or Fraud Table Tennis Equipment Websites -

You are right to be suspicious and you've listed several features in scam websites or vendors of fakes. As you note, they often sell lots of stuff besides TT equipment, and you can sometimes tell that the operators don't have a passion for TT. (A big contrast from, say, TT11). Otherwise why...
  2. shop THTHRT is legit

By the way, I posted at MyTT the info that Music&Ping provided here and thanked him. Anything we can do to chop down internet scammers is a good thing. I thought of also linking a Jaco Pastorius video but didn't.
  3. shop THTHRT is legit

As I said at the other forum, this site raises all sorts of red flags for me. I would avoid them!
  4. A noobish question about the ball going beyond the table

Indeed. For a great example, watch videos of Vladimir Samsonov. He is perfectly content to play safe when he has to, which means sometimes he can regain the initiative later in the point. He never ever ever beats himself.
  5. A noobish question about the ball going beyond the table

Aim lower. I know it sounds overly simplistic. It solves the problem. Don't think about your mechanics, think about where you are trying to hit the ball.
  6. Ma Long vs Liu Guoliang

Thanks for posting. These 40+ balls seem really bad for SP.
  7. Problem between my Technique and new racket

Aim lower. More seriously, i don't know this rubber at all. But it sometimes takes time to adjust to new setups. Time may be all you need. If after a month and the problem persists, get a slower rubber.
  8. William Henzell NEW Blades

Just noticed that this thread is 9 years old. Sorry I contributed to the necromancy.
  9. William Henzell NEW Blades

Yes, should be very similar. Both are liquid crystal polymers that absorb high frequency vibrations. I found the Donic Ovtcharov True Carbon (aramid carbon) to be completely indistinguishable from Butterfly ZJK ALC. It would be impossible to tell which was which in a blind test. Similar to...
  10. Old Hans Alser blades

    Actually?? No.
  11. Old Hans Alser blades

My first ever TT paddle was an Alser with the green 3-star Cobra rubber bought at a sporting goods store in Stockholm --- in 1969.
  12. How to measure blade speed?

Best way to measure blade speed? Put on your favorite rubber and play with it. What if you don't own it? Try your clubmate's new setup. None of the rest of this stuff matters.
  13. Liu Guoliang chairman of World Table Tennis

I very much hope that happens. A complete revolt from ITTF. It would bring life to TT forums!!
  14. Liu Guoliang chairman of World Table Tennis

I don't think that the ITTF has been a particularly admirable organization. I think the CNT especially under LGL has been even more successful than their usual historical standard. So I think this is not a bad thing at all. I bet it will work out pretty well.
  15. Thoughts on my future racket, any tips or recommendations?

I don't understand the insistence on 7-play either. Some of those are actually faster than certain composite blades.
  16. Thoughts on my future racket, any tips or recommendations?

You probably don't want to hear this, but a setup like that will seriously impede your improvement. It will ensure bad technique. You need to learn to actually use effort to hit proper strokes and develop footwork that allows you to do it. Also, a setup as fast as you seem to want will really...
  17. Table tennis vs road cycling and what we know from science

A thought just occurred to me: In discussing cycling performance we talk about functional threshold power (FTP), VO2max, power output curves, optimal cadence, training stress scores, ca.oric and fluid balance, and on and on. There are things anyone can do to get better, you just have to actually...
  18. Table tennis vs road cycling and what we know from science

Quotes from The Unfettered Mind Writings of the Zen master to the sword master (by Takuan Soho) If you do not train in technique, but only fill your breast with principle, your body and your hands will not function. Training in technique, if put into terms of your own martial art, is in the...
  19. A new era is born and the backhand topspin is dying?

Nobody but Kreanga ever approached backhand like Kreanga. It was why he was fun to watch. You wondered how the hell he did it and couldn't wait to see him do it again. But if you watch better players from his prime era, say, Waldner, Persson, Samsonov, Kong Linghui, you just won't see them hit...
  20. Table tennis vs road cycling and what we know from science

I agree with zeio on all this (including his comment on dwell time, which is a bit speculative but what I've always hypothesized). My main point really was how little we actually KNOW compared to in cycling. Comparing cycling to marathon, triathlon, Nordic skiing, etc. Is interesting. Just as...
