@arch how old are you right now? I feel sad for you, having such a passion for the game but unable to play stronger players.

Playing what do you mean by soft? When I think of people who play soft, I think of myself. Where someone loops at me, then backs up slightly for their follow up, and my soft blocking causes the loop to not come as far as they anticipated. People tend to NOT like this when they play me. Watch...

play a game you enjoy. if looking cool while you play is important to make you enjoy the game more, go for change. We have a player who is over 2000, shakehand, forehand super looper. Never learned how to chop. He once said these exact words after losing to someone around 1900 he had no right...

Here's a trick I kind of taught myself and may have shared on this forum before, but maybe not. So many of us know, muscle and quickness with raquet speed aren't really correlated. Now here's a trick I've used for a while to develop better whip mechanics and get that quickness up. If you own a...

If you get the chance to play a good player, would you prefer that the player never gives you heavy spin because you can't deal with it? or would you like them to give you their good shots. In many people's eyes showing that you give your all is much more respectful than giving players things...

??? Wut I said to not windup on the backspin serve, nothing to do with your opponents. Developing your serve correctly won't matter to your opponents if they already can't return it. It only benefits you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes I can see your opponent's ball going into the net off of your underspin serve. I can also HEAR your opponent making flat contact with terrible timing right off the bounce. it's not that your serve is heavy, it's that your opponent doesn't understand how to deal with any backspin and isn't...

@arch Underspin serves. Don't wind up. NL has some good videos of the shorter strokes for the forehand underspin serves.

And then it comes to left handed players being unfamiliar with those outliers that thrive off over-reliant forehand lefty's. Still unfamiliarity giving an advantage.

Yes. Any time you're less familiar with a matchup, you're at a disadvantage.

@carl I think most players under 2100 actually don't have great service. It's severely under practiced. And then compliments come about our service when it really isn't that great. Lucky for you, You've got some friends that are actually very good at it and can help you improve service...

This is very interesting to me. I frequently hear that my serves are higher level than most of my game. And I've always kind of thought this was said to everyone. Do higher level players tell you that your serves need work? Or is this something you realized on your own

Don't graze the side if you want to make heavy backspin. You can make sidespin without touching the side. If someone gives you heavy under, and you don't wan to adjust your pressure but still want to give them a short heavy underspin ball, you have to brush a direction that isn't forward...

Not impacting the side. Brushing down from behind as normal, just with side motion added. Heavily brush, not impact. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I also want to put this out there for short chops. You don't have to change pressure to make it heavy, light, long or short. There are other options. Someone chops heavy at you and you want to make it short? You can graze the ball with side and under instead of just under.

okay, faux looping is much easier than I thought. I practiced it in game only about 15 times, however I didn't miss a single one. The people I was playing are players that I'm comfortable saying are MUCH lower level than me. Only one of which can chop heavy. I actually decided to try it only...

Doing that to light spin is just touching the ball with an open angle. Lifting would cause it to go higher than I'd like. If it's light spin, I'll either chop heavy and long, poke it with an open angle to keep it short, or flip it in some way.
