Understood. You made the comment about drills vs matches and the key difference is the ability to read the ball. It is why I encourage people to play matches slowly and with proper technique rather than with power. Let the other person hit the ball and learn to touch it with the proper...

People don't realize that Jim Butler was still capable of beating 2700 Chinese players in the US after he came back from retirement. So his highest level wasn't low, it was mostly his energy and consistency that suffered.

It is not as different as you think. The point is not about the level of play, but that a world class player after retiring and coming back from injury was still capable of playing at a high level many years after he came back. This is easier in TT than in other sports because a lot of TT is...

Doing a stroke vs a robot is different from doing jt in multi ball which is very different from doing a stroke in practice drills which is again different from doing it in practice matches which is again different from doing it in real matches. Each scenario adds something important that is a...
  5. G-1

5 out of 5 rating for G-1 This rubber was likely the best of the generation of ESN tenors that came out almost a decade ago (Baracuda, Hexer, Genius, Xplode, Energy Xtra, Vega Pro) and one of the very last to be released. Nittaku rubbers tend to be sold at a price premium in most parts of the...
  6. Allwood for FH oriented and Composite for BH oriented players

What blade did Jon Persson switch to?
  7. blades with koto as a medial ply?

The Rossi Emotion and the Aruna use it just below the Hinoki. I don't know any blade that uses it as the core ply but you can check the resources provided by G_Zhang.

Review by 'NextLevel' on item 'G-1'

This rubber was likely the best of the generation of ESN tenors that came out almost a decade ago (Baracuda, Hexer, Genius, Xplode, Energy Xtra, Vega Pro) and one of the very last to be released. Nittaku rubbers tend to be sold at a price premium in most parts of the world so this rubber has...

It is a good idea, but remember that coaching adults has its own issues as well. You have to work hard to make what they are learning meaningful and if they want it to translate to matches, you have to watch them play and continue to adapt the training to their weaknesses. You also have to...
  10. Tibhar AKKAD - New blade Designed by Nexy

I really like the blade and may do a more complete review soon. People who like all wood blades like Timo Boll W7 but more linear will like this.

Thanks! Table tennis has opioid effects on my brain. Not sure whether it is a good thing but when I enter a TT hall, my brain suddenly shuts out pain (I suspect it is secreting huge amounts of endorphins). It is my ability that let's people know that all isn't what it appears to be.

For the ankle.just be careful. It is easy to think that playing causes it when it can be a symptom of something unrelated to or just made worse by playing .

Somewhat. I have accepted that my technique and my movement are not going to improve as my body is too injured to support real training so I just have to play a lot and get smarter. And rest for long periods of time.
  14. Switching to old generation rubbers

They are similar but G1 feels a bit harder and more controllable/linear. That doesn't align with everyone but it works very well for me.
  15. Hugo Calderano on Team Xiom

That combination was the best one for me as well... O7 pro with Aruna blade.

  17. Switching to old generation rubbers

I like Fastarc G1 better than the newer stuff. I do play close to the table.
  18. Improve my FH topspin

When I used to have time (and Carl as well), we used to link to videos of players and coaches displaying and teaching the ideas that we tried to convey. Many of mine came from Ttedge since most of my formal understanding of TT comes from working with Brett Clarke. But of course it isn't...
  19. Improve my FH topspin

Lula is posting a lot of wisdom that will only make sense to someone who already gets it. Let us hope OP improves a couple of things and posts again. Personally I find commenting on these things with my limited time difficult. The thing I liked that Lula pointed out is that for a year of...
  20. Butterfly Innerforce series - whats the deal in compare to 5ply/7ply allwood blades?

The main point of composites is to increase stiffness without increasing thickness. This is a good thing if you prefer stiffer blades but want the thinner feel of a looping blade. Thinner composites can get the stiffness of thicker 7 plies.
