  1. Rozena vs Mantra

You can only stick for years with something that has been available for years. That is the correct way to read your statement. Of course, having the best players in the world use your brands doesn't hurt either. People who try a new rubber when it first comes out are reviewers. It is...
  2. Fair handicap for men and women?

That's the thing - it's one thing to definitely say it and another thing to speculate. We should all say first and foremost that we don't know. But the thing is that off the bounce blocking and good serving can take you a long way in TT. When the NA Teams in Baltimore featured more high level...
  3. Fair handicap for men and women?

I don't understand where this is coming from. There are ways of rating players based on results. Let's stop the hypotheticals and rate the results. I have seen very high level men get shocked by the kinds of balls that women can block off the bounce. I don't doubt that the top men can beat...
  4. Where is Liu Guoliang now?

LGL is not the only one who understands TT in China and they put the team in the hands of a technical genius (WJP) for now, so I expect everything to be fine.
  5. October World Rankings 2017

Timo is just keeping LGY's seat in the top 5 warm as well.
  6. What is the peak age for table tennis players?

Larry Hodges gave a comprehensive answer on his blog. Pros or people who start young and play actively with intense training tend to peak in the 20s-early 30s. People who pick up the game later can peak whenever they decide to invest the resources and train intensively and some improve...
  7. SAVE OF THE YEAR!!! by Jeff Yamada

Those guys hit the ball too hard though.
  8. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Brett has been doing a lot of videos on Ttedge recently emphasizing the role of the hips on every stroke including forehand flip and backhand topspin but obviously forehand topspin, counterhit and backhand block. His most recent video emphasizes something I tell people but some people don't get...
  9. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I travelled extremely light and my impression is that Baal is a fairly private person even if very affable so I wasn't going to take anything. I didn't even have my knee braces so I was lucky that Baal's club had wooden floors. Even then, today is not a cakewalk...
  10. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

In Houston for the Columbus Day weekend. No racket but I figured it would make no sense bring in Houston without seeing Baal. So I sent him a PM and he agreed to meet me at his club despite his recovering from a long cycling race the day before. He also lent me a racket since I didn't have one...
  11. Polish Open 2017

    Tricky opponent. Quadri did well.
  12. T2 Asia Pacific Table Tennis League 2017!

I don't know about that. I can't remember Dima losing to Joo in any match I have watched.
  13. Drive looping back spin balls.

Watch Xu Xin playing any chopper you will see this shot a lot. Dima and Boll use it a lot too.
  14. Tactics to beat a much stronger player

To beat a player much better than You, in my experience, they need to have something fundamentally wrong with their game at the level they play at. Wrong means imbalanced. Like a Xu Xin type game with dominant forehand play or long pips chopper where the ball slows down making you comfortable...
  15. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

6 to 13 months if you are in a rush. More like 2-3 years for mastery and maturity.
  16. Slower, soft rubber a good idea for a beginner?

I agree with this - the reason why Baracuda has issues is that for a first rubber, it is very spinny and spin-sensitive and inherently non-linear. But it is not the end of the world. The speed is actually good for a beginner, though the strokes that may work may be less technically sound...
  17. I like underspin coming at me than nospin , is that normal ?

Well try it out and see what happens. Since you don't have video, it is hard to recommend anything. THe starting position looks similar because he is very low, but it is different contact point on the ball and it is different to him as well. IF you are as low as him, the starting points will...
  18. Slower, soft rubber a good idea for a beginner?

Both the rubbers and the blade have issues, but if I had to pick one over the other, the rubbers are fine, the blade is the issue.
  19. Drive looping back spin balls.

It's not that hard. The confusion here and the reason it is "hard" is that most intermediate player are not used to taking anything off the bounce especially backspin. But once you realize it is an off the bounce shot, the most important thing is to get to the ball on time and then the spin...
  20. Drive looping back spin balls.

I use the shot. You perfectly described what your friend does. It is basically an of the bounce loop/loop drive vs backspin. Most Chinese/Euro off the bounce loops hook in that fashion. Just try it and you will find the balance. I do it more with my backhand than my forehand.
