  1. More power needed in my forehand

If spin is the dominant thing you are looking for, use another rubber. Karis M is more for consistent countering and control and with decent spin.
  2. How to see the ball early ?

This is an excellent post. Getting fitter is a part of it, as well as being able to take the ball at multiple timings, especially when you get to it late. I remember that a huge part of my TT improvement began when I managed to loop the ball when I got to it late and put it back on the table...
  3. More power needed in my forehand

Being able to play multiple forehands against block is part of the game. IF you need more power, you need to look at ways of generating faster racket head speed. Maybe using your wrist more aggressively as part of a whip motion might help as well as generating faster motion in the core using...

Had a tough day at Westchester. Lost a match in which I had multiple leads in every game and a couple others where I just could not adjust to the slower timing of the ball. There were some good signs and I will see how it plays out over the next week. I do plan to play more in August before...
  5. Ultimate Table Tennis League 2017

Strangeloop already posted about this a few pages back, but I also pointed out that Shetty had already beaten good players at Australian Open, including Jang Woojin, who is a technically sounder player than Aruna. So these are upsets, but Shetty has already shown he is more than capable.

My game is going into the tank. I am losing badly to pips players. I am playing Westchester today but I have zero expectations and would not go if friends were not playing and He Zhi Wen wasn't coming.

Forgive the video quality but this is the best ever:
  8. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I have played great backhands and great backhand matches against better players, but in this match, my backhand becomes a force of nature. At one point, I actually told myself that I didn't want to be my opponent....

Wouldn't it finish a little higher?

But you see, even the one at 8:44 doesn't *look* like a loop. I am doing something, but the motion is so short and the paddle so open that I am not sure what kind of hybrid it is.

When I look at video, my backhand stroke is never what I think it should be, even though I love the shot before I see the video. WTF is this? I thought I was playing a backhand loop... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DHZLYK70kaQ&feature=youtu.be&t=199
  12. Why pros blow their thumbs

I am 100% with you on this.

Usain Bolt is probably the best example and sprinting/racing is probably the easiest ground to show something like that. Even Phelps. Sure they had great mental toughness and trained hard, but those guys were so far ahead of the competition at their peak that their worst times could often beat...

We have quite a few in table tennis, no need to go to tennis. Look at Fan Zhendong and Harimoto, such players do not grow on trees. And anyone arguing that Fan has mental issues needs to be 20 again ( of course, I believe that is is his real age).

I agree with the sentiment but disagree with the details. Ridiculously talented elite athletes do exist and they can make mental issues irrelevant when they are healthy.
  16. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

IT's unlikely. There isn't enough money in table tennis to experiment with the plastics and the ball is bigger. After a while, people get tired of change and are more focused on consistency. The world rankings have not changed substantially with the new balls, so people are largely okay as...

Just like speed glue is gone and hard bat is from a different era, a time will come when players will have never experienced a celluloid ball.

I am not sure I would call the Korbel "quite hard and stiff", but it definitely is a good choice. Recent Korbels I have used have been heavy, but if one could find a lighter one, sure. Composites make it easier to control that kind of stuff with less variation.
