  1. Upgrade to a new bat - moving from inverted to pimple rubber on my backhand

Trying pips-out is really not a big deal. People talk about it like it's converting religions or changing nationality. It's just one sheet of rubber. I hadn't heard of this gimpfelsturm rubber so I read some reviews. It seems to be a long pips you can (in theory) attack with. But...
  2. 2019 ITTF World Tour Grand Finals

Maybe WMY is just having a great week. These players are all pretty close. If one of them happens to feel great and play at peak level for a few days in a row they blast the others. Doesn't mean one is really better or same will happen next time they meet.

  4. 2019 ITTF World Tour Grand Finals

I meant the 4-1 beatdown in German Open or wherever.
  5. 2019 ITTF World Tour Grand Finals

Most players don't like 100mph drives coming at them. It's also not easy to land them consistently. SYS did it for a match and destroyed Ito. I don't think anyone else would have fared much better against SYS that day. If WYD has that in her, good for her, she deserves to win.
  6. 2019 ITTF World Tour Grand Finals

Reveling in a kid being heartbroken after a tough loss. You are a grade-A asshole and deserve a big slap across the face from somebody your damn self.
  7. 2019 ITTF World Tour Grand Finals

A margin of three points out of 143, .4 points per set, is a wash. Changing one ball almost anywhere could change the result of the match. For comparison Ito beat CIC by 9 points on 123 total, and CM beat QTY by 7 of 145 points. All close matches but a big difference in degree.
  8. 2019 ITTF World Tour Grand Finals

Hey, if 5-4 at T2 to SYS counts as a loss for Ito then 12-10 in the 7th today counts as a win. The score says a lot about a match but in the end nothing matters except a W or an L.
  9. Using smart watch as a coaching aid

This made me realize why rockpaperscissors is the perfect way to decide serve order. It has the same quality of each player trying to think of what the other player thinks they think they are thinking as serve and receive does. A catcher calling a baseball game is the same, and hand signals...
  10. 2019 ITTF World Tour Grand Finals

I agree that if Hirano/Ishikawa/Hayata were Chinese and on CNT from the beginning they could be better players than they are now. My roundabout point was if they were on CNT today, at their current level, they would not be immediately behind the players CNT will send to Tokyo 2020 WS. They...
  11. 2019 ITTF World Tour Grand Finals

I think everyone knows this. So much energy arguing over IK, MH, HH when their chances against top CNT are all the same, slim to none. It's not like Ishikawa is stealing a place from a player who actually has a chance to win. Reality is on CNT they would all be battling for spots below WYD...
  12. Considering switch in blades YSE to JRE or XOS

Before you buy a new blade, why not add some weight to the handle of your YSE? Nothing to lose, right? A grip tape, or even a beast mod (search the forums) will change the balance, add power, and make the handle more solid. If it doesn't work out for you, can still buy a new blade.
  13. Using smart watch as a coaching aid

Coaching can help a lot with tactics for a specific match and situation. With fundamentals, not so much. Between games and one timeout is plenty of input. More crosstalk during games will hurt more than help, imo. You really have to just play, while being aware in the background of what...
  14. 2019 ITTF World Tour Grand Finals

The JNT has made a horrible mistake with this no-judgement, mechanical selection process. It goes beyond not having the best team in Tokyo 2020. It's increasingly obvious that their best players are under so much pressure that they aren't playing up to their capabilities and are miserable...
  15. Advice on a new $200 racket build?

The colestt rubber is the same Dawei 2008. You could also get the setup everyone in the world could use and afford, Sanwei M8 with Sanwei T88 both sides. The whole combo is $28 from Megaspin.net before shipping. Same as the coles setup, not better, not worse, just cheap and suitable.
  16. Advice on a new $200 racket build?

I wasn't being mean, it was a direct quote from the OP. Main thing to know is this: the worse you play now, the easier it is to improve and the less time and effort it takes. Going from "I played a lot at school" (really love this btw) to "I kind of know how to play a little" is pretty easy...
  17. Advice on a new $200 racket build?

Advice on your crappy technique: hold the bat properly. You serve with a very exaggerated backhand grip and then get stuck playing the entire point that way. It's an easy fix that requires no coaching and hardly any practice. https://youtu.be/oi27l74iE10 https://youtu.be/QXAXpZ8jRZw...
  18. Japan Women's Race to Tokyo 2020 Singles

I guess my question is if Japan was given the choice between silver in teams and XD and bronze MS and WS or bronze in MT or WT but gold in XD and WS, what would they choose? Does an individual gold outweigh a team silver and some bronze? From the US perspective bronze is trash, silver is...
  19. Help me with a decicion please!

+1 on replacing rubbers only. And get new of the same rubbers. You are going to be training much less so adapting to different rubbers will be harder than if you train 5 or 6 times a week. Try adding weight to the handle, either a grip tape or sone lead tape. Or even just glue a coin to...
  20. Japan Women's Race to Tokyo 2020 Singles

Wait, wait .... maybe JNT has a master plan here. If they realize they can never compete with CNT on depth, then sacrifice teams and XD, and push all their chips in on Ito in WS, and to a lesser extent Harimoto in MS. If those two don't have to play any doubles, they each have a chance to beat...
