  1. Ready position for receiving serve

Meaningless habit from being low when practicing at young age and used to how it looks, is one thing I've heard. Although you yourself can probably use it as a habit to get into the state of mind of being low and ready to move.

School started again, and I'm back at the table. I didn't really play with my partner today, but I hit with some fresh blood from the first years who arrived. I'd been improving my technique over the summer and there was a noticeable improvement, but of course as soon as I really started...
  3. All wood versus carbon layers

Of course now we get to this question: What does good contact feel like? Are there differences in what good contact feels like with different blades, glues, rubbers and balls?
  4. Highlighted Matches from Rio Olympics 2016 - Table Tennis!

Wow. Aruna is a lot better than last time I saw him.
  5. All wood versus carbon layers

philly, race car drivers can feel minute details in the road and the flex and slip of the tires without even being in direct contact with the manipulating piece, instead touching them through gloves, a steering wheel, a power steering system hooked to a steering system that purposely deadens...

To play at 2000 level against one or two topspin attacker styles is one thing. To be able to play at a 2000 level against any style and have the foundation to improve beyond that level is another. Do also consider the agony of playing at 1200 level for the same amount of time it takes to go...
  7. Rio Olympics 2016 (Singles Event)

Why the hell does everyone always have to pull the racist card out? Doing that is the equivalent of claiming you have a cold when you lose a table tennis set, only to have said cold disappear on every winning set.
  8. Quarantined- Dorm Room Table Tennis

Although I am not terribly knowledgeable, I've noticed that in some wu-shu schools the horse stance is different from what you're doing. Easier, if you will. I think for a workout, keeping about 90 deg leg bend with thigh somewhat parallel to ground and back straight is good. So a little bit...
  9. TTX is what the 4th August is all about - the new revolution of table tennis!

Man, I don't know what's worse, spambots, or shady company accounts that write like this for some damn reason.
  10. How to fit shower curtains like the Chinese National team

I like how Zhang Jike retreats into the next room when he opens the tap. You know, in case some bad shit leaks out, like small sea animals. Who knows what's in Rio's waters.
  11. table tennis for wussies?

I should point out that to actually get tired playing table tennis, you need to have reasonably advanced footwork and strokes which require a certain level of physical ability. People who don't play won't know how to move, so they will never move fast enough to really use their body and get...
  12. pimple

Yes, but what is preventing you from furthering your own serve receive skills with smooth pimples? If you are popping serves up or netting them all the time, then maybe it's a case of practicing to read the spins?
  13. pimple

What is preventing you from learning to read and receive serves better?
  14. Rio Olympics 2016 (Singles Event)

Olah Benedek beat Chen Feng 4-1. It's nice to see that Finland has competitive players in the top 100. When are the Chinese playing?
  15. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I've played against quite a lot of true beginners, people with barely 10 hours of experience. I don't think you can improve against them much at all in a meaningful way. My concern right now is getting the proper timing and whip mechanics in place with the right contact, but getting one of...

I think Carl is talking about specifically training FOR the lower player. The argument is that a much higher level player won't learn much from training a much lower level player because they won't be intending to give them balls that won't come back. Am I wrong?
  17. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

That's true. Playing inconsistent beginners has some good sides. As a developing player, I find it quite hard to keep a strict form against such players: there's no rhythm at all.
  18. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

In my experience, playing with true beginners, they will adjust, but you will not get a quality ball back. It will take extensive coaching to teach them to return topspin back in a quality manner. So you don't know for sure just how good your shot was.
