  1. Timo Boll Interview: About 80% of pro's are using illegal rackets

I don't understand why we don't just legalize boosters. Speed glue did nothing bad to the sport, and neither do boosters.
  2. Leaning back in modern over table loop

What IS the principle for taking a free kick or shot on goal? Perhaps I'd need to post more video of this. It doesn't really happen in warmup or instructional situations. More so what Inkognito is describing: the top players and I only do it close to table, and I do it to avoid a backhand loop...
  3. Multiball please

Just bear in mind that you might have to drop some cha-ching to get people to learn to feed and to feed you multiball if they don't play.
  4. Matchplay Footage and Counterlooping Practice Footage

I've noticed he has some terrible habits in his strokes. Lifting the wrong leg, stretching the body, brushing nearly completely upwards etc. Those stem from bad shot selection, but IMO also inability to execute the shot automatically, on command. That is why I suggested he drills his strokes...
  5. Matchplay Footage and Counterlooping Practice Footage

+1 to Carl about watching the opponent. I used to not have a block at all, and every time someone looped, even at highschool level friendly play, it blew past me. Then I realized that you can see 90% of where the ball is probably going to go based on what they're doing on the backswing and...
  6. Matchplay Footage and Counterlooping Practice Footage

It's just a case of getting your backhand loop to the point where you're confident. Sometimes, although probably not yet for you, it's just a case of "****ing doing it already" and you'll start hitting them. I suggest you to keep drilling it, though. At least until you can easily vary spin and...
  7. Matchplay Footage and Counterlooping Practice Footage

Well, OP is surely far better than I was 13 months in. I did not have any actual understanding of the game to train myself with, nor did I have a coach or any resources, either, so it's just natural. I haven't been playing terribly long myself, only about a year and half, but that is still half...
  8. Matchplay Footage and Counterlooping Practice Footage

I've coached people in numerous things, including table tennis, but I haven't actually worked with anyone to improve their game. So yes and no. More towards no, you can consider me inexperienced as a coach. I do appreciate the mental side of table tennis and that's how I mostly score my points...
  9. Matchplay Footage and Counterlooping Practice Footage

I would also love to post footage, but I simply can't. I don't even really play right now, apart from some friendly games on our school's table, because the people there are actually half decent these days. I can at least train my touch play against them. Once my living condition is...
  10. Matchplay Footage and Counterlooping Practice Footage

While other people's feedback is good, you need to find a way to improve on your own. I think the key is to recognize your faults and assess them realistically, and develop a way to deal with them. That's what I did, thus the ball throw method for learning new strokes.
  11. Matchplay Footage and Counterlooping Practice Footage

I suggest ditching the robot at first, and throwing the ball up from mid distance and hitting it when it bounces up from the ground. This sounds simple and like "bad practice" because the ball has no or little spin on it, but you'd be surprised how good this is at eliminating everything except...
  12. Leaning back in modern over table loop

1 minute 15 sec. I couldn't find a very extreme example, but I did find this from Ma Long's instructional. Notice the upwards movement, very slight leaning back and pushing backwards with the legs on contact. Imagine this but exaggerated on a stronger shot in a match situation.
  13. Matchplay Footage and Counterlooping Practice Footage

Take half a year to analyze your strokes and then drill it until you can do it in your sleep. After that, go for the most aggressive attack you can on every single ball until you can comfortable attack everything your partner would throw at you. He is giving you tons of chances. Forget all the...
  14. Leaning back in modern over table loop

This is what I mean. Not actually leaning back, just straightening out quite excessively.
  15. Multiball please

Protip: Film all your sessions, if you do them solo. You can then avoid bad things. Of course, a requirement for this is having a very deep understanding of the game, to even spot said bad things.
  16. Leaning back in modern over table loop

Why? The movement helps to get away from the table to prepare for the next ball. Why is it mechanically not sound or why IS it mechanically sound? Is it only done to clear distance? I don't want speculation: ideally someone who consciously knows should come here and comment.
  17. Leaning back in modern over table loop

Hello. I've noticed that just about every Chinese top player leans back when they hit backhand loops. I also do this without any formal training and I've found it to be effective in increasing pace and allowing me to make the distance larger in a whim if need be. The lean is not throughout...
  18. TTEdge Executing Table Tennis Shots Series!

You nailed some very spinny serves in the video. I suggest you try to replicate that, and immediately note how it felt when you did it, then strive for that feel. That's what I do for every single action in anything.
  19. TTEdge Executing Table Tennis Shots Series!

I try to focus on my grip pressure and racket speed, not the whip. The whip comes automatically if you're relaxed and moving the racket fast enough. I found that if I try to force a whip motion somehow, my contact is rubbish. Ideally I don't think you even notice you're doing it. I think it's...
  20. Something to think about regarding technique

Using larger or more muscle groups does not mean more control. You have more muscles to control, after all. What it can result in is more control if the technique is more grooved in and you know HOW to control said muscle groups to account for error. I know my margin for error in hitting a very...
