  1. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2023

Ouch... That was really bad from Mima. Unless Mima can steal that 2nd spot from Hirano, Japanese Women's Olympic team is going to be Hayata, Hirano, and Miwa.

LYJ has such a complete game. And he used low, half long serves to perfection. He overplayed the BH flick early in the match as Tomo was ready for it. But once he settled down on the receives, his better all around skills took over. Whatever happens with WCQ, I'm really liking his progress.

So happy for Hina, but also so sad for Bernie. I have a feeling all the CNT and JNT women will be practicing receiving variations of the tomahawk serve. Kudos to Bernie Szocs for a great effort.
  4. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2023

I guess the Hayata debate has to spill onto TTD LOL. It's all good. As mentioned in the links you've quoted, I think there's just a general recognition that the Japanese, including Hayata, have to do more to beat the top 3. That's not a knock of Hayata, It's just the reality of the situation...
  5. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2023

I might be wrong about this. Although Joo definitely leapfrogs Miu Hirano, YXX has 280 expiring points on Nov 7 so even though she did better than Hirano here, I think Hirano retains the final spot. Saved by expiring points.
  6. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2023

Come on LYJ. You got this.
  7. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2023

Sadly, for Miu Hirano, with Joo Cheonhui making the QF by beating YXX, Joo pushes Hirano out of the 16th spot for the WTT Finals .

You can use the ITTF head to head to show all results: https://results.ittf.link/index.php?option=com_fabrik&view=list&listid=26&Itemid=247 If you plug in Lee Sang Su and Fan Zhendong, it shows LSS at 0-14. Not yet updated of course with today's win.
  9. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2023

The 2024 World Team Table Tennis Championships to be held in Busan, S. Korea just got quite a bit more interesting. LSS says 0-14 means nothing.
  10. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2023

BERNIE SZOCS! Another awesome win against Chen Meng!!!!!!!
  11. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2023

In addition to having a very balanced game, I think Hayata can absorb many of Miwa's shots that Miwa would normally win against most other players. Plus, Hayata's level of spin is superb forcing Miwa's counter to go long.
  12. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2023

Queen Hayata tells Princess Miwa it's not your turn yet. Hayata is far more calculated in when to use her more powerful top gear. Miwa is like use top gear 80% of the time leading to more mistakes. Congrats to Hina. Well deserved win.
  13. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2023

It looks like Hirano has to keep an eye on Joo Cheonhui more than YXX. I missed that YXX has 280 points expiring next week so she would need to make the SF here to make it up which is unlikely with WMY in her quarter. However, Joo Cheonhui does not have any expiring results this year. She's...
  14. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2023

I do hope Miu Hirano gets that 2nd Olympic singles spot. And you're right that she did well at those selection points. However, she made it harder on herself by losing to Pyon Song Gyong at the Asian Games. She could really use those 10 extra points to separate herself from Mima ito further...
  15. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2023

Hmmm. I would need more than 1 win to be convinced. It would certainly be a great win. But one win doesn't make a trend. I think Miwa's 3-2 loss to Adriana Diaz contrasts sharply with Hayata's 4-0 win over Diaz at the same tournament (WTT Contender Muscat). Regardless, there's a lot to be...
  16. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2023

Hard to win 3 tournaments in a row with the 3rd being a WTT Champions level competition. Plus, she's been playing non stop since the Asian Championships. If she does win it, then great! But I really want Miu Hirano to win it (or at least do exceptionally well) to secure a spot in the WTT...
  17. WTT Champions Frankfurt 2023

The usual suspects are favored to win: SYS and FZD/WCQ. My dark horse sentimental picks to win it are Miu Hirano and Lin Yun Ju. Hurricane Hirano has the talent to beat anyone in the world. She has to sustain in for the entire tournament. She's got a tough draw though right off the bat...
  18. WTT Contender Antalya 2023

Hina Hayata's epic match with WYD at the 2023 World Championship redefined how Hayata is perceived. That match is match of the year for me:
  19. WTT Contender Antalya 2023

Top 16 are in. However, I'm not sure why they have YXX at #17 with only 1159 points when her official ranking pts is 1520. CIC has some points expiring to put her even with Miu Hirano so it's going to end up with who can place further in Frankfurt. Adriana at 1765 pts has a total of 765 pts...
  20. WTT Contender Antalya 2023

He'll be ranked #10 after this win. This young man's star is rising fast.
