  1. Who has the world's best backhand?

Haha I won't get into his personal habits :P He told me when he was younger he was lazy and always used to get stuck when moving out to the wide forehand, so he would always come back in and play backhand off the forehand corner on the next ball - that was his answer when I asked him how he...
  2. Who has the world's best backhand?

He's a very hands-based player so he doesn't do much footwork, focuses a lot on close table countering or fixed position further back from the table. Also he does a lot of creative serve receive practice. I probably won't see him for a little while, I was training with his team in Ostrava at the...
  3. Are styles conforming and hurting the sport?

I wrote a new blog post about my thoughts and some thoughts which were shared by me in discussion with some table tennis legends while I was in Germany earlier this year. What I write about is the way the game is changing and styles are being phased out, players are conforming towards one...
  4. Zoran Primorac and Bojan Tokic in the US

Will Shortz' latest email about the tournament didn't mention either Primorac or Tokic so I don't think either of them will be playing. I had already been told Primorac would not play. Ionescu is also in New York on vacation. Will have to see if Adrian wants to play, if he does I will bring him.
  5. ITTF seems to abuse power

It's just an error on their part. Can you imagine how many YouTube videos they have to go through to claim rights on during an event like the WTTC? It's quite a significant number. It doesn't surprise me that there are some mistaken claims. Everybody is trying to get their 5 minutes of fame...
  6. TTDaily Members Meet at or Near WTTC

Unfortunately I only managed to meet up with Dan and ruin his round the net shot moment :P
  7. Two of USA's Top Chinese Players go Head to Head

Most people I know who use Viscaria use either Hurricane/T64 or T05/T64 combinations. I haven't heard of anyone specifically using soft rubber with it.
  8. Two of USA's Top Chinese Players go Head to Head

They both have Hurricane 3 forehand on Viscaria. I think T64 backhand. Both use the same setup.
  9. Two of USA's Top Chinese Players go Head to Head

Two of the better Chinese players currently competing in the USA had a finals showdown today at my club. Much closer than I thought it would be as Jun Han won 3-0 last time. Will be interesting to see if he can make the final in next week's Westchester tournament to play against Bojan Tokic, I'd...
  10. Zoran Primorac and Bojan Tokic in the US

Jun Han will definitely be there. Adrian I'm not so sure, he's mainly here for vacation he didn't know about the tournament but I told him and gave him the option to go if he wants to. To be honest I'm not sure if he will want to given it's his time off from season. We will see.
  11. Zoran Primorac and Bojan Tokic in the US

Haha ooh didn't know Tokic was here too, time to bring the noise, should I bring Crisan with me? :P
  12. Is Samsonov finished ?

He has two sons. One of them is a basketball player. Not sure if we will see them take up table tennis, maybe the younger one.
  13. Is Samsonov finished ?

No, no and no. Get a hold of yourself. So he's not in the top 10, holy hell that means he's finished. He made the last 4 of last year's Olympics and still made the last 16 at the WTTC this year before losing to a very on-form Lee Sangsu. On any given day Samsonov can still beat players ranked...
  14. Is Samsonov finished ?

Ovtcharov lost to Lee Sangsu in 2015 WTTC should he have retired also? We are talking about a very competent and experienced player losing to someone who has at the top of their form. Lee Sangsu was playing like a monster at the tournament. And to say that Samsonov's style is boring. Look at...
  15. A top player's income ?!

I'm surprised that Ma Long doesn't make the cut, having the profile that he has. Maybe he should work on his public presence a bit ;)
  16. Is Samsonov finished ?

There is one simple reason. He loves the sport. Remember this is their whole life. Just like Timo he will continue to compete until he feels it is time for him to retire. Perhaps some people might have said previously when he dropped from the top 10 that he should retire. But then he came back...
  17. Training in Ostrava

My last morning in training here. Below is a small clip for the Butterfly SK7 Korbel review which I will be preparing after WTTC. I actually averted a crisis the other day lol we played soccer as a warm-up for the afternoon training session and I took a bit of a tumble. I was kind of fumbling...
  18. Liu Shiwen offered $1million!!

It's quite common for the Super League teams to pay big money to 'buy' players for their team. Apparently one team paid 10 million RMB (just under 1.5 million USD) to buy Guo Yan back in the day and that was I think back when she was number 1 in the world which was over 5 years ago.
  19. Table Tennis articles for the general public.

I have some on my blog like '4 ping pong skills to take you from beginner to winner' and 'the ultimate guide to beating your workmates at ping pong'. I tend to use the term ping pong when i'm writing to a broader audience lol
