I still think that using pips on a higher level does require a unique skill, which is indeed different from inverted. But it is still table tennis skill. Having said that I also think that the type of tournament/league u mention where only inverted is allowed would be appreciated by many...

I remember when I played badminton in school I was not bad as well but I got a lot of pain in my lower arm/wrist. That was because I used wrist technique from TT with a badminton racket, which was kinda heavy for that sort of technique :D

Yeah, on the ETTC he showed that his game against Ma Long wasn't an accidental peak performance, but he really upped his level. I hope he can continue this line, his game is a pleasure to watch as well! 110% effort and good looping from both sides :D

I think it is more important to keep in mind why the rules are made like this. That rule propably is meant to prevent people serving from the side of the table or starting short before the net, which would create weird serves. There is nothing about Boll's serve that would give him an unfair...

Okay, I don't remember the match that well. Would that be the reason he performs so much better against Chinese players? Because he doesn't underestimate them and goes full power from the start? I can't wait to see his next match against a non-Chinese top player.

Idk if Ma Long will ever be overconfident. I think it is more likely that he was afraid to lose, even though he is way better. And as we know fear to lose causes no relaxed loops, no flow. That makes it always hard to play.

That's an interesting question indeed. The national association of Austria probably helps, and they probably made money off the Austria Open. Maybe they host more events since it's a good hall I guess. But there is no club that plays there as far as I know so they can't get the money from...
