  3. Your backhand sucks? It's ok brother, don't cry! We're in this together for the long run....

train more BH. I do not know a single player who trains their BH anywhere near as much as their FH. Most it is like 10:1 FH:BH
  4. Why do you play Table Tennis?

I played table tennis as a kid. It is the only sport I could possibly be competitive in at my age/health status. It is also both fun and exasperating. I will never reach the level that I cannot get destroyed.
  5. Yay! I am a looper now, so what next?

Good coaching advice by Kris Kristofferson: You got to know when to hold 'em...know when to fold 'em. Know when to walk away... know when to run. Table tennis version: You got to know when to loop 'em...know when to block 'em Know when to smash away...know when to chop.
  6. Difference between forehand drive and forehand loop?

Loops and drives are just different descriptive terms on a spectrum of topspin shots. To make it more confusing, oner person's loop could be another person's drive. I would worry less about what you call a shot and work on variations of topspin and their trajectories.
  7. New blade - Stiga Pure

Sounds like the SK7 you have in your signature, doesn't it? As somewhat a 7 ply wood blade consumer (I have bought a lot) I can say they are not all created equal-some have some flex, some are stiffer, there is variation in speed, blade size, weight, etc. One forum member stopped blading with...
  8. How to play Penhold looper with long pips bh?

How does he do when you play long and dead to his BH?
  9. Yay! I am a looper now, so what next?

I just want to say Mr. Gozo, that many of us still have the same problem. We keep trying. And working on it.
  10. Matches Vs Practice for improvement

Based on what you write, doing a season of league play sounds like a good use of your time. If you don't like it don't keep on that path. I will say a caution: to say that you "underperform in matches"-you sound like you are training to train and not to win matches. There is nothing wrong with...
  11. Playing to Win vs Playing Your Own Game – Mental Crisis!?

I totally understand and have chosen the path of ugly wins over pretty losses. But it is my choice and you may not want to go that route. I am 60 years old, moderately overweight. I will never beat a good 25 year old player by out top spinning them or playing all out offense. I MIGHT have chance...
  12. What are the unwritten rules of table tennis?

A corollary-if you loop first, then block their loop in warm-up (and that means not counter loop, counter kill or do aggressive blocks-just block the ball back and let them get warm). A sub-corollary rule that I regularly break is that at a tournament I often will NOT loop in warm-up cause I am...
  13. Countering heavy top challenge

First thing-if your opponent's topspin is too much to handle, don't help him by serving underspin-or pushing long!!! Second-if your opponent is looping your serve that goes off the table, serve dead two bounce serves!! Third-if your counter of your opponents loop is going off the table, don't...
  14. Stiga chop & drive replacement

I tried chop and drive. I wonder how many sheets they sold? It is one of many rubbers that you never, ever saw at a tournament when you looked at your opponent rubber sheets. Sorry, having a flash back...
  15. How to play against Flat Fast Attack player

short game, short game, short game
  16. Does anybody else mentally fall apart against pure pushers or weird styles?

Interesting thread. I think some answers with "simple you just serve topspin or top side" or just play X or Y do not appreciate that some players do have an incredible push game that is difficult to overcome at mid level play. I have played some pushers who absolutely could push any and every...
  17. Defensive Blade/Rubber Advice Needed...

I am the worst one to ask the question. I have tried plenty of blades, just none of the ones you mentioned. If you could post a video of a match I think people may give some helpful recommendations. Not knowing or seeing you play I generally think most players cannot go wrong with yasaka rakza...
  18. Defensive Blade/Rubber Advice Needed...

why do you want to change your blade? I would keep the blade. Try new rubbers based on your style. Then maybe consider a different blade.
  19. Other ways to improve in table tennis

Watching videos will help. I am of the opinion that watching players better than yourself, but not way better is better than watching FZD for example (at least for me).
