  1. Does anybody else mentally fall apart against pure pushers or weird styles?

Well maybe I was wrong. I thought be was in Canada but I hear CA was really California so I got my places mixed up lol.
  2. Does anybody else mentally fall apart against pure pushers or weird styles?

The backhand is not as flexible as the forehand in timing pushes, so if you don't practice backhand topspin against repeated chop or take the push off the short or half long return, it is very easy to miss by mistiming backhand topspins against pushes off long balls. It is very common to have...
  3. German League 2024-2025 Bundesliga Match between Fulda and Ochenhausen TTBL

Wow, Feng loses from 2-0, 9-6 to Kanak! Deuce in the 3rd, Deuce in the 4th, Kanak wins going away in the 5th. Crazy.
  4. Does anybody else mentally fall apart against pure pushers or weird styles?

Of course video would have been good, but there is a reason why many people who post these things don't provide video - its because the video would show all the things they conveniently ignore to push their narrative. No one likes to lose to someone who appears to playing with less effort than...
  5. Does anybody else mentally fall apart against pure pushers or weird styles?

It's definitely mindset to a great degree, everyone likes minimum effort and hates it when someone who doesn't look like they are trying is beating someone who is running up and down and looping the hell out of the ball. Table tennis is not a beauty contest unfortunately and no one wins any...
  6. Does anybody else mentally fall apart against pure pushers or weird styles?

For some people who don't know a few things that might help a little: OP plays in Canada. This is a point that some people who are completely unfamiliar with Canada might overlook. With a 1950 Canada rating, OP might actually be between 2000 and 2200 in the USATT rating system. He is a solid...
  7. Does anybody else mentally fall apart against pure pushers or weird styles?

To be fair, not necessarily, weirdness has hard to read elements that are just as valid in table tennis (which is psychology with strategy and tactics as much as it is athletic and technical). It just means you have a problem to learn about, but it doesn't speak to your fundamentals at all...
  8. German League 2024-2025 Bundesliga Match between Fulda and Ochenhausen TTBL

Togami beat Meng, for some reason, Ochenhausen plays a guy who defaults to Dima after winning the first point on serve, Kao Cheng Jui beats the younger Tiago Abiodun, and then Dima beats/destroys Togami. Lots of talent in the Bundesliga this year, probably a benefit of Russian sanctions still...
  9. Dignics 05 or Dignics 09c on forehand?

You can't go wrong with either. For reference, I use Skyline 3 on forehand, which is a slightly tacky rubber, but when I turn the racket over and loop with Dignics 05, my ball still stays on the table. A lot of the advantage of 09c is in the short game and over the table play, Dignics 05 does...
  10. ARE vs YSE

As someone who liked the YSE, I don't encourage lateral blade moves either. Your blade is fine. If you want to try a thicker 5 ply, a 7 ply, or a carbon blade, sure. But same blade speed is just changing lanes with no real difference.

The human body is a weird machine. My body is full of aches and pains but when I want to go play TT, I push out something into my bloodstream that makes feel no pain. Not good. I went to hit with my coach who is back in school. He said that compared to last year, he sees a jump in my...
  12. WTT Feeder Olomouc 2024 Aug 21-25

Why curious? Isn't it some ALC blade with Hurricane on forehand and DHS/Dignics on backhand?
  13. WTT Feeder Olomouc 2024 Aug 21-25

That explains it. Didn't need to go to expedite. The Japanese girls had more powerful forehands. Age and experience might play a minor role as well.
  14. WTT Feeder Olomouc 2024 Aug 21-25

BTW, Britt Eerland takes 2 games off Yokoi - wish I could see that. Repeating for the umpteenth time I am happy she is back, we need such quality players in Europe. Wish she had won though.
  15. WTT Feeder Olomouc 2024 Aug 21-25

Borgar, the Boll of Norway, benefiting from that Dusseldorf training. Hope he continues the upward progress - this is a great result for him.
  16. WTT Contender Lima 2024 Aug 21 - 25

Jorgic and Franz are clubmates, it will just be their daily practice streamed on YouTube lol.
  17. What drills to do to reach solid 1500 USATT?

Anyone who can loop all long balls is well beyond 1500. Same with responding to difficult balls in more than one way. In fact bringing back difficult balls is enough to get you 1500.
  18. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

So today was a tournament day. I wanted to support the local tournament and entered 3 events. U2150, U1900 and the giant round robin. I wasn't sure whether it was smart to play with a bigger and more critical event a week away but I am an addicted TT nerd so who cares... peaking is for pros...
  19. What drills to do to reach solid 1500 USATT?

My conclusion watching pros and matches is that above the 1800 level, everyone is doing the same old stuff, they just do it better and faster and with higher ball quality. And when just about anything you do becomes overwhelming relative to the level you usually play at, if you can introduce it...
