  1. Coaching code of ethics

The structure of your club is hierarchical and quite different. I would be interested in whether you would do the same if you and another coach were competing for students and both had students in the final match of an event at another club.
  2. "Euro" vs "Chinese" Play Style

I think it is the number of kids and the amount of training that people like to gloss over. Even players in Europe trained to play in the Chinese way don't get as good as fast.
  3. Coaching code of ethics

The same applies. IT's not just taking lessons from the coach but being a regular student of the coach to the point that a relationship has been formed where such things become uncomfortable. MY coach discusses the weaknesses of his students with each other student and sometimes coaches us to...
  4. Can an App improve your Table Tennis? Interview with Brett Clarke from ttEDGE

Kind of worth it is an understatement. How much would you pay a coach at Brett's level to practice against his serves? You may not have kept up with the updates. The app is massively good now and Brett says it is nothing close to complete.
  5. Tomahawk Serve BLADE DAMAGE

You were likely serving spins that prevented the other player from getting into the (or their) topspin game. But often, amongst equal players, it is usually about who gets the first attack in and who is more consistent. Finding patterns that consistently let you do this is the key to most...
  6. Tomahawk Serve BLADE DAMAGE

No. Saabs played at the NA teams in 2014 while I was there. I saw enough of his game and saw him play others to know what the easiest way to handle him would be, though for a lower rated player to do it while he has the energy to run around his forehand is not easy.
  7. Tomahawk Serve BLADE DAMAGE

Sabas has a nasty forehand. If you can't wear him out or make him use his backhand, you are in for a long day.
  8. Tomahawk Serve BLADE DAMAGE

Top seed is not the same thing as best player unless you confuse ratings with playing level. Also, at the lower levels, all kinds of weaknesses facing specific balls and spins limit your effectiveness. This is true at the higher levels as well, but in more subtle ways. And of course, Ilia is...
  9. Should serve safely or try to serve a surprise to win deuce game?

Jeffrey had taken Kai Zhang to 3-2 before and has been close to 2300. So while the guy may have been weaker vs lefties, David played at a high level.
  10. Coaching code of ethics

The differences are less meaningful than many people like Yinykin often make out. In fact, the most meaningful difference is how far the USA is from where high level TT play occurs given how important such exposure is at an early age and at various points in one's career and how this negates...
  11. Tomahawk Serve BLADE DAMAGE

I considered making it but decided to stay in my area and play Westfield. If you have been training as I have seen in the last video and you know how to play around your strengths, you should do well. I don't know whether you will be favorite in the U1300, but at the lower levels, unless you...
  12. Tomahawk Serve BLADE DAMAGE

Yes. And those players get adjusted. And such players, when you step to the table, you may get obviously outclassed. And there are many such players I have beaten and lost to throughout my playing TT. In some cases, I have been those players. I have had periods when I broke 1900 for...
  13. Tomahawk Serve BLADE DAMAGE

It depends. I am just saying that if he is the best player in the event, anyone who beats him has to out play him. IF you don't think this way, you will be always prone to thinking that there is someone out there to upset you. And it will become a form of paranoia. If you accept that even...
  14. My Version of Brett Clarke Serves

So I did some work trying to mimic DerEchte's serves today. The footage shall remain hidden from the Goon squad, but I think someone who watches these videos carefully and thoughfully will see what is happening on the backspin and topspin serves. DerEchte doesn't so much serve a pendulum as he...
  15. Should serve safely or try to serve a surprise to win deuce game?

It's clear from the story that you did nothing wrong - you just lost to a good player that you could have beaten. I try to find the short serve in my arsenal that my opponent had trouble returning that gave me a third ball attack.
  16. Tomahawk Serve BLADE DAMAGE

Why not, if you are the best player in your division?
  17. Tomahawk Serve BLADE DAMAGE

You seriously think you squatted further down than this?
  18. Coaching code of ethics

I heard this story on mytt a while back so I was a little jaded by it. MY view is that you need to know the coach well enough to discuss this kind of stuff directly or it really makes no sense to ask for any form of loyalty.
  19. Coaching code of ethics

The kid lost one match. Why make a mountain out of a molehill if you don't even know the coach well enough to discuss this directly with him?
  20. My Version of Brett Clarke Serves

Brett has done a lot of stuff to simplify serving. That will not replace the hours you need to put in to develop good serves. DerEchte will tell you the hours he put in . Mine are at least 4 years, maybe with more focused in the last year and a half. I can't count the number of hours I have...
