  1. Saudi Smash 2024

the serve, short push and 3rd ball FH is a killer, much like a younger Ma Long. The rallies just need to be good enough to not be a liability. Not everyone is meant to be the king of rallies like Fan Zhendong. But that said, it is interesting that FZD worked on short game for so long and it is...
  2. How to read the "swipe" serve?

Also, by the way you describe it, all sidetop/sideunder serves are "swipe" serves lol - that is almost every serve archetype except for the heavy underspin/no spin variant!
  3. How to read the "swipe" serve?

He already moved forward (anticipating a short serve) and was no longer in position to loop. At those levels, pushing back a long ball is almost always a mistake
  4. How to read the "swipe" serve?

Beginner level BH pendulum is easy af to read because they change the racket angle between sidetopspin and sideunderspin ie open angle for under and more closed for top. The advanced BH pendulum uses a fast af racket action powered by the body rotation and weight transfer (see for eg Darko or...
  5. How to read the "swipe" serve?

You gotta call it by its proper name which is a BH pendulum serve...it is nowhere as simple as just a "swipe"! The serve here is sidespin with a little top indeed because Harimoto uses a vertical angle and chops straight down (the correct technique to push/chop against sidetopspin balls).
  6. Saudi Smash 2024

Felix Lebrun vs Harimoto was funny. When Harimoto served underspin or no spin, Felix put so much underspin in his long pushes and surprisingly Harimoto just couldn't lift the ball (??!!). And this forced Harimoto to serve sidetopspin, and Felix just did a very strong RPB chiquita (because he...
  7. Saudi Smash 2024

I can do both reverse pendulum as well as hook. Imo you can learn both. Hook serve is easier to learn but harder to master imo (there's a lot of subtleties in the fakes and the wrist movement and the contact types) - it took me a while to create very heavy spin with it and even longer to...
  8. Critique my game [Shakehand FH SP BH Inv]

I agree that he doesn't need to get so low, the height in the 1st video is fine. Shorter players have the advantage of not needing to squat down so low + he is using pips so going too low will actually cost him time. If we look at Koki Niwa he doesn't stay that low either. I agree that he is...
  9. Saudi Smash 2024

Wtf happened, how did LJK, Ma Long and Lin Gaoyuan all lose prematurely?!
  10. really struggling with long pips (LP) low-med spin

i use fake movements for everything and it pays a lot of dividends in general, as a lot about TT is about deception. Wrapping is bad if you do it using the upper arm (for eg by raising elbow). But you can achieve it using forearm pronation as well as the hip rotation itself.
  11. really struggling with long pips (LP) low-med spin

If you wrap the ball properly, you can deal with ambiguous spin balls much better. Basically you can use a very similar loop stroke for all balls if they are low ish in spin this way. The really bad thing is to have a linear straight line stroke - that way you have to be incredibly precise with...
  12. Critique my game [Shakehand FH SP BH Inv]

I would highly recommend watching the short push tutorials by Fang Bo and doing the exercises with a partner. You would fix all the bad habits (for eg arm backswing, not putting right foot sufficiently into the table, reaching etc) real fast in the process. Because you can't short push reliably...
  13. Eli Ho - Child Prodigy of Long Pips OX

Sorry had to say it, this is a bit of a pedo thumbnail...
  14. Critique my game [Shakehand FH SP BH Inv]

Tbh the FH smash and opening can be tightened up a bit too so that your elbow is closer to the body and also turn off the arm backswing a bit. This should improve consistency. If you watch some of the top FH pips player they barely have any arm backswing - Yuan Jia Nan for eg
  15. Critique my game [Shakehand FH SP BH Inv]

Wow this is some quality play. I liked the fast connectivity between shots (which Im working to achieve too) and really good recovery step footwork after every shot. The BH loop is a killer (especially down the line). I also really liked how you are always very aggressive in finding your spots...
  16. How to play against high topspin loops?

Racket angle isn't everything. Too closed of an angle means that you will miss the ball a lot. Obviously you should close it but not too much. You should learn how to control and press down with your body, and how to absorb the incoming momentum with sideways movements. If you use sidespin it...
  17. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

FH chiquita concept looks like this (obviously will need to add footwork and body rotation later on) Very similar to the "world fastest serve" movement. You can even disguise it with a FH push preparatory movement. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work, except that it is a completely...
  18. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

In the pursuit of a FH chiquita off short balls, i was theorycrafting and found potentially the best way to really juice up the spin and power with the wrist. This is achieved by using the BH rubber on the FH side (even when using a FH stroke). It is a bit like a reverse shakehand FH loop in a...
  19. Pendelum Serve like Reverse Serve

i think the left arm would be left too high and ppl might accuse you of hiding serve. But tbh, it is just easier to pull the elbow backwards hard after the serve contact. This achieves the same effect and also helps maximise the spin to speed ratio. I can see pretty much all the top pros doing...
  20. Pendelum Serve like Reverse Serve

Imo the most effective fake movements are either going back behind your body or down below the table. This is because your body and the table can hide the racket's after motion (perfectly legal, the ball is not hidden). You have no obligation to show the racket except during contact, so it is...
