  1. Changes in Table Tennis

I was being taught to loop in 1970. The technique I was being taught then is not one that works well now (if you can find old video of Dragutin Surbek, you can see how things were supposed to be then). NL is right, though, speed glue in time changed everything. I think the game got a lot more...
  2. Changes in Table Tennis

Could be true, unintended consequences have occurred with about every rule changes. I am not personally thinking that the sport should take the gamble that somehow it will all work out for defenders if we raise the net, by some feature none of us anticipate. I watch how these two guys I see...
  3. Changes in Table Tennis

Is there a consensus that the current length and quality of rallies is somehow sub-optimal? I don't think so personally. I would much rather watch a modern match than one between one of my heroes as a kid. In general I think things have been fairly similar from a spectator point of view for...
  4. Changes in Table Tennis

I am sure that raising the net height will be bad for choppers -- relative to offensive players. And the part in bold is the key point. It is not whether one is impacted and the other is not. All players will be impacted some. The question is who is impacted more? I am not a 2400 chopper...
  5. Changes in Table Tennis

Why do we want to slow the game down?
  6. Changes in Table Tennis

Be sure to let me know.
  7. Why are there so many choppers using short pimples?

Is this really a trend? SP would provide a lot less margin for error.
  8. Possible DONIC Timo Boll ALC, Timo Boll Spirit, Viscaria, Zhang Jike ALC alternatives

But over 200 USD. A lot for the OP and not too common a blade so not so easy to try one out before you buy it. I thought the Stradivarius was ok but True Carbon definitely more to my liking. ZLC blades are a quite different feel.
  9. Changes in Table Tennis

Suga, there are three clubs of that level in Houston. That picture is of a club I rarely play at. It is quite good, though.
  10. Changes in Table Tennis

If you have ever played a really good defender (there is one at my club at 2700 named Li Kewei, another former CNT player at the next club across town named Wang (Eddie) Hao, and a girl here from China name Vivian Li who is around 2400) you find that they are able to hit consistently balls with...
  11. Changes in Table Tennis

I feel that in many of their rule changes and approaches towards making the changes, the ITTF has an attitude of being actively hostile to players and their wishes. Contemptuous and condescending. This attitude has to change, but it will only change with new leadership. A few of the changes...
  12. Sharing A Good Video of ZJK's Pendulum Serve

There is one obvious one that Wang Hao pushes into the bottom of the net and several others with very heavy undetspin.
  13. Possible DONIC Timo Boll ALC, Timo Boll Spirit, Viscaria, Zhang Jike ALC alternatives

I'm not sure what your price range is. The one advantage of paying the full price for the Butterfly is there is a really good chance that someone you know has one so you can hit with it and thereby at least have some idea what you would be spending the money for. With the Donic and Doubleday...
  14. Possible DONIC Timo Boll ALC, Timo Boll Spirit, Viscaria, Zhang Jike ALC alternatives

I believe that at one point they were an OEM for Btfly.
  15. Possible DONIC Timo Boll ALC, Timo Boll Spirit, Viscaria, Zhang Jike ALC alternatives

I imagine you will probably think these are pricey also, but it is another alternative and I doubt you will find decent ALC blades for less than this. Next Level has tried one of them I think. They are reputed to be very close to Butterfly blades and they are said to be very high quality QC...
  16. Possible DONIC Timo Boll ALC, Timo Boll Spirit, Viscaria, Zhang Jike ALC alternatives

Pricey? Not really, certainly not compared to Butterfly ALC. How does it play? I wrote a more detailed review in the review section. DTC plays very similar to Butterfly ALC blades.
  17. The All Time Greatest

I sort of agree with you, and I personally think that Ma Long is the greatest player of all time. I say that, even though I first learned to play in Sweden, a really long time ago, so am a big fan of all Swedish table tennis (my heroes growing up were Bengtsson, Johansson and Surbek). Still...
  18. Blades with carbon

    I like mine too.
  19. Help to improve match mentality

Part of what people attribute to "match mentality" is surprisingly often really just technical deficiencies in one's game which cause shots to break down under the stress of unfamiliarity and unpredictability. In a tournament -- maybe in a new building on different tables, against unfamiliar...
  20. Butterfly equipment

I switched to Donic True Carbon because I can get it in ST handle, and it feels pretty close to Viscaria. Close enough to make me happy after playing with Viscaria for more than ten years. I can't say how one with a FL handle would compare but I think slevin would know.
