Spin and speed on the backhand can be overrated and control can be heavily underrated. Curious, what's your USATT? It helps me put statements in context.

I know what you mean, but my experience (and what I have heard talking to people who have worked with players like Aruna and Henzell) tells me it is not that simple. He does have the basic shots, but their quality for returning certain balls and their transition into his overall game is a gap...

I was going to make your same point but it really is kinda nit picking. There is some truth that tackiness of the rubber slows down the release of the ball and allows you to take fuller strokes at the table and away from the table. It is a part of the reason why the Chinese style is so...

Maybe so they can sell it at $30 and make a profit? I agree with you on the whole.

David, As a friend of Ben, I have a question for you. Have you met anyone who likes to train more than Ben does? I have seen him wear down world class coaches with his appetite for training.

Your game looks very solid for someone who has been playing only 2 or three years. There are the usual adult learner issues but we are who we are. Watch how you stand and practice at the table and be very conscious of it at all times. You seem to get locked into a backhand stance very often...

They are still playing Super League in China hence his comment.

After I broke USATT 2000, I spent a lot of time rebuilding my technique. My game now looks much better and more orthodox, but ratings wise, I have gained at most a 50 points in official USATT points, as my game is now easier for conventional players to read and play against. Yes, my potential...

Go look at it - the serve kicked *sideways* on the second bounce - the replay shows it more clearly. Good luck with your flick kill.

Did you see how many of those BH loops Dima missed throughout the match? They figured out something that Dima couldn't read properly and used it a lot, had nothing to do with choking in that particular moment. As for the serve, the replay showed that the second bounce was abominably low. I...

Did you watch the replay? The replay didn't look that sky high and the second bounce was abominably low relative to the first bounce. The serve kicked sideways not upwards.

Great job by Fan - I think the number of errors and passive returns he drew on serves won him this match. Dima is going to have to go back to the lab and study that hard. Too many missed aggressive returns and misdirections at critical moments.

I know people like the "choked" meme, but how exactly did Dima choke?

Yes, and you can't take that away from him like you can't take that away from them. You can add Timo to that statement as well.

They studied a lot of videotape... both players are playing well but Fan always just had the extra energy and tactics.

Just an excuse for me to give away blades and rubbers while getting more people to post video of their play.
