There is no one-size fits all to table tennis - there are generally accepted ways of doing things and wrong ways of doing things in the context of shot quality. But there is no single way to do something right - each technique comes with advantages and disadvantages and are tied to the goals of...

So how would you respond to this? http://www.samsondubina.com/coaching/stance

Archo, thanks, but I have this. What you are saying is precisely correct.
  4. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Yes, but very often, you may have to play a forehand topspin before the feet are ideally set. If you have to do this, which foot should be where first?
  5. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Yes. And if for some reason they don't, which is semi impossible without some defect, the position of the shoulders is the best indicator for how much you can bring into the shot. In fact, when Brett was here, he kept on telling us that even before moving for a ball, once you intend to play a...

I object to this - I think you understate my role in ignoring certain assassinations of my character..... that said, I will give you nine points. Your problem is that you will also give me 9 so we are even.
  7. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

True, but the best measure of the degree of rotation of the core is the degree of turn in the shoulders. Try it out if you are still a skeptic.

It's a Chinese secret... but you have to wait for the part that applies to shakehanders...

I agree. The issue with serving is that when you have the wrong form, there is a painful rebuild to get the right stuff in place. I Want to get him to do the right serving form first with whip pattern and timing. When he has those things, fixing the serve quality etc. is straightforward. But...

PRobably a little similar to how I think people who don't bend their knees should loop.

I didn't say I had the heaviest backspin serve in the state of PA for nothing... but yes, I can do stuff like that fairly consistently. That's why I don't think that serve pattern is about talent. Anytime I hear someone is even trying to mimic it, or I am coaching someone to use it, their...

Since you have healthy knees, most of the work will be training yourself to rotate the core and do many drills fixing the upper arm range of motion. Relaxing the grip also helps as tensing too much with the wrong fingers keeps the arm perpetually tense.

Shoulder pain is almost always from overusing the upper arm. Hard but fixable with improved technique.

When you are old, there is nothing new under the sun. When you are young, everything is. I am just happy that we have someone to bully Carl and SugaD when they tell me off for not respecting footwork because I have no cartilage in my knees and wrists.

You are young. You just haven't participated in any real debates. By the standards of debating, what Carl did there was just show surprise for emphatic effect. If it was really personal, you would have gotten something like "I question your competence to open this thread given some of the...

I don't think what Carl wrote was bashing and I think it was a valuable addition to your thread that educated a lot of people, including yourself and myself. I also understand how it feels to be told that there is a lot of stuff you don't know, especially when you think you knew a lot. I want...

Anyone can open a thread. You are basically saying that you felt angry because people didn't respond to the thread the way you wanted them to because someone showed they had more knowledge on the subject than you did. My answer to you is to get more knowledge so that this doesn't happen again...

BTW, in case people think that Carl was just insulting Yecats, here is the thread: https://www.tabletennisdaily.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?14331-The-All-Time-Greatest&highlight=greatest+player+time

You have judged me. I'm not sure how logic works these days, but that's the bottom line. Sure Carl could have left a thread he felt was pointless alone. It's the paradox of whether telling people not to participate in an election is really a way of participating in the election. I'm sure you...

People make fun of mine all the time. You don't think that I sometimes address them and do better? Or you think people haven't told me that I have no business coaching? Or that my videos are an eyesore for table tennis? Or your comments about me making statements about exercise from my...
