  1. My Xiom Axelo setup

It's vibrations and bounce really really. Hinoki is too bouncy as a thick upper ply but as a thin outer, you get the vibrations with less bounce. It does okay with a thin outer ply and then hinoki in the inner plies as well.

How do you do with limba blades? Your blades seem to be mostly hard contact blades.
  3. My Xiom Axelo setup

OK, but at least you have a club where you play good players? All this talk about Hinoki, BTW, has made me glue up my Vega Tour. That Hinoki feel is really something else. I will give it a work out tomorrow evening at the club.
  4. My Xiom Axelo setup

    MachineHead, do you play tournaments?
  5. My top all wood blades.

This is by Double Day, not Galaxy. Double Day used to make the Black Tag Butterfly blades. http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=71755&title=double-day-valiant-loop-king-review http://www.ping-pong.tw/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=50&products_id=3825

That is possible but I doubt it. The biggest problems with the blade come from me when I hit hard - I feel like I am playing with something completely different from how it plays on my 60-70% shots, which is where I usually am topspinning close to the table. I don't think the dampeners are as...
  7. What do you think of this rubber?

You almost never need to change rubbers with tack unless you are bored. Or you think the pimples are so dead it is playing badly, which I think takes a higher level than the one I play at to appreciate.
  8. My Xiom Axelo setup

I like the grab effect of Hinoki - I briefly played with an American Hinoki one-ply (it split eventually of course) and it was the main reason I liked the Rossi Emotion - in fact, I think the Rossi Emotion with an ALC weave would be a fantastic blade and a huge bestseller, even more than the...
  9. My Xiom Axelo setup

Wow, your father must be awesome to be playing with you with LP if it is a recent switch. A bit surprised that you love fast blades so much, but if it fits, go for it. Maybe you are the next Vladimir Samsonov/Georgina Pota.
  10. My Xiom Axelo setup

How old are you, MachineHead, if you don't mind my asking? Just curious.
  11. My Xiom Axelo setup

BTW, it also helps put into proper perspective how it feels to hear Pnatchwey lecturing me on how to loop - just saying. Enough thread hijacking ;). I try to tell BH-Man at MYTT that I was the original BH-Man. I learned to loop on my BH before my FH. I ran around my BH to use my FH on serve...
  12. My Xiom Axelo setup

Thanks for the compliments. Yes, the forehand was the stroke I rebuilt most recently and I try to pound it hard just to see how far I can go with it while still spinning the ball - in my club, the players I am trying to beat don't respect good spin, they abuse it. My backhand, I just can't...
  13. My Xiom Axelo setup

Yes, composite doesn't always mean faster. Schlager by the way, used a Primorac Carbon. To be honest, I don't consider ALC blades like Viscaria, TBS, TB-ALC, IF ALC etc. to be OFF blades - I actually consider them attempts to recreate the OFF- experience but with less vibration and more long...
  14. My top all wood blades.

    Bullseye!!!
  15. My top all wood blades.

Carl, I agree with you that there is more to it than that. I gave away my Primorac OFF-, my first real blade. I tried it with different rubbers looking for the magic combo when I became a better player, but whether it was the flare handle or the feeling, I never liked it. Now look at all the...
  16. High throw vs low throw rubber (high / low arc) thoughts

BTW, does Der_Echte look like Benny Hill or am I overthinking this?
  17. High throw vs low throw rubber (high / low arc) thoughts

To be fair, many of those players developed their instincts and strokes back in the Waldner/Appelgren/Kong/Gatien etc. days so things like over the table backhands or some modern serves may have passed them by. In fact, there is nothing I enjoy more than playing some of those players because...
  18. My Xiom Axelo setup

To me, anyone who is using an Axelo or Schlager Carbon etc. has virtually given up on serious table tennis unless they play a very specialized style extremely well. Yes, I know that's not 100% right, but you get my point. Someone who wants to build their overall game should never use such blades.
  19. My top all wood blades.

All these blades are jokers when compared to a Yasaka Extra. On a more serious note, it is a mistake to think too seriously in terms of branded blades, IMO, when it comes to all wood. The classic constructions tend to play fairly similar and are all good with a few subtle differences in handle...
  20. High throw vs low throw rubber (high / low arc) thoughts

This is the one sport where a ball slapping player whose rating is below 1400 on his best day lectures players who are USATT 2000+ on how looping should work. Love it.
