  1. Life, Existence, and the Meaning of Long Pips - The Opus Maximus of James Z

This is not against anyone. And everyone has a right to their own opinion and perceptions. But I think it might be worth knowing that Adam can do everything most offensive players can do, and he can do some pretty darn cool shots that most people cannot do. And his level is honestly higher...
  2. Using shoulders in forehand topspin?

Good post: This would be my first thought and hopefully that is what is meant because other options for what he might mean seem more risky from a biomechanical standpoint. But since it is only words we still would need to see the actual technique of the OP.
  3. Using shoulders in forehand topspin?

Any chance you can post footage of your FH. It could be 30 seconds and just a few FHs. It is hard to actually comment on technique without seeing what someone is actually doing. Your stroke might be totally fine and you might not need to worry.

Hopefully it is not 5.8cm thick. :) 5.8mm.....but really 5.89mm should get rounded to 5.9.

And Gozo doing shadow stroke and footwork training would actually help him immensely with so many things that his body has not got the muscle memory or the sequential coordination of actions to do. Like how, when you take a one-step, and then pivot, backswing and stroke, how your upper and...

Since you really like what you use and seem to be addicted to the speed it gives you, to start, I am happy if you try to feel what the advantages and/or disadvantages of a blade that is almost 2x as thick as a normal thickness blade. :) If you feel that, it is at least a start. Even though I...

Just to be clear though, as a start, I am not even asking him to hit with the racket. I am just asking him to see if it is easier to hold and adjust to different angles like closed BH, open BH, closed FH open FH with the thinner racket and compare to how things like that feel in comparison to...
  8. Don't blame the rubber if you don't get enough spin.

When you are your own boss and own your own company, nobody can tell you that you are wrong. Imagine that same person working for someone else and the scenario is different.

So, now, just testing, find a blade that is 5 ply or 7 ply that is shakehand, (maybe one of your club mates rackets) and take your 10.5mm racket and do the actions of closing the racket for BH and FH and opening the racket for BH and FH, like you are going to take a stroke. Then grab the...

Not 38mm ball. 40mm celluloid ball. Before 2014 we used the 40mm celluloid ball. Now we are using 40+ Poly ball. If you did not play when people used the previous ball (40mm celluloid ball) then you talking about equipment for the 40+ era seems a bit odd because you did not have to make that...
  11. Broken/Cracked Timo Boll Spirit. Any Advice?

That seems to me to be the method that would have the most success if you can get the epoxy way into the crack.
  12. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I still have some 38mm Nittaku 3 star balls. It is wild to play with them with today's equipment. The difference is staggering. But, today, most people who are talking about this era and adapting to the 40+ ball and equipment changes that were useful in adapting to the 40+ ball are talking...
  13. Don't blame the rubber if you don't get enough spin.

I guess, more info: I am pretty sure James Z still plays. I could be wrong. But that he does not participate in USATT sanctioned tournaments does not say much about whether he plays or not. In 2014 I believe he was running a club. Back then he made some posts about continuing to use the...
  14. Broken/Cracked Timo Boll Spirit. Any Advice?

There is nothing wrong with trying to fix it. But one thing to know, since that is the area of the blade that handles all the force transition from handle to blade face and from blade face to handle, once a blade has damage there, it is not so possible to fix. The damage will just resurface.
  15. Don't blame the rubber if you don't get enough spin.

Just for context NDH, in 1998, when James Z stopped playing in sanctioned USATT tournaments, which, I believe was after the aspect ratio rule he likes to talk about from 1998, James Z was a decently high level player. I can't remember what the rating was. But if my memory, from years ago is...

    1) You talk about the 40+ era. Did you play in the 40mm celluloid era to be able to compare? Or are you just repeating something you heard others say because they were comparing their experience now to back when the ball was 40mm celluloid? Clearly, this does not really matter. I am just...
  17. Cleaning tacky hybrid rubber to keep tackiness?

During play, do you feel you need more than humidity from your breath and a wipe with your hand?
  18. Cleaning tacky hybrid rubber to keep tackiness?

Yep. That is why I said, the amount of molecular degeneration is not worth thinking about. You are done with the rubbers long before it comes into play.
  19. Cleaning tacky hybrid rubber to keep tackiness?

If you clean before you play, not too much. As Lazer said, it keeps air out and so, over a longer period of time, less oxidation of the topsheet. If your rubbers are in a bag, that is fine as well. It can do the same thing. You can even press the plastic of the bag up against each sheet of...
  20. Cleaning tacky hybrid rubber to keep tackiness?

Chemicals in the detergent actually cause the rubber molecules to break down and oxidize a tiny bit faster. I guess it is a choice. Putting oil on the surface of the topsheet will also cause the rubber molecules to break down and oxidize faster. But the short term effect is that they are...
