Sato retrieves the ball from a very wide angle. After the ball makes contact with the table, it comes off both sideways and downwards. It's a tough call for the umpire to make in a split second.

I would have ruled it a side but those controversies are not going to end today...

This was a bit of a strange tournament with Covid stopping the progress of both Miu Hirano and Miyuu Kihara. I hope they will be okay. Mima clearly was the fresher player without having to play a semi finals that was supposed to take place with Kihara. Hayata had to struggle through a 7 game match with Miyu Kato and not much time between that match and her match with Mima. Interestingly, the base points in the current 20 percent of the old points.

Eventually the initial ranking points will reach zero, but I don't think that has to happen in May because the percentage is listed as TBD starting in Week 18 in the transition plan chart. It might end up being 0, but the ITTF could decide to drop it to maybe 10.

It's still listed as TBC (to be confirmed), but the 2022 ITTF event calendar lists the Grand Smash Asia, March 7-20 so that will be a good source of points.

CXT rarely loses to anyone outside of China so I expect her to win this tournament. I count 8 Chinese players in the qualifying rounds so that will be a big challenge for Adriana.

I can't see it. However, from umpire pov, hitting the ball from a wide position always favours a side call.

Adriana Diaz definitely has legit top 10 potential. One can watch her matches against Ishikawa or the Chinese etc. And see it.

She can play flat and fearless from the backhand a la Ito when she goes for broke, Sun Yingsha felt it in their last match up.
