LSD was 1-0 in H2H against Matsushima, but then who was going to get Togami if the match score was 0-2 instead?
It was a unanimous decision of the coaching staff, rather than just WH. I will post his interview later when I get time. They could've lost in straight matches if they used that lineup and WCQ lost to Matsushima instead. They probably didn't expect WCQ to fail to get 2 points.

(After the match, when asked about the lineup adjustments,
Wang Chuqin stated, "The coaching staff makes the decisions regarding the lineup; as athletes, our job is simply to execute. I don't speculate on the coaches' tactical intentions."
Wen Ruibo could not hide his self-reproach: "I let down the coaches and my teammates, who placed their trust and hopes in me. Although I gave it my all, a victory was certainly within reach. I hope to get back on the court and redeem myself in the upcoming individual events."
Men's team head coach Wang Hao responded by noting that fielding Wen Ruibo as the second singles player "couldn't really be considered a lineup change."
"We had considered this arrangement back during the semifinals," Wang Hao said. "Wen Ruibo's performance in the final today was actually much better than I had anticipated. It wasn't a lack of ability in his two matches; rather, he is still somewhat lacking in experience, game management, and the seasoning that comes from competing in major tournaments. If they don't get tested and gain experience in matches like this, they won't truly grasp the brutal nature of a final or the demands such major events place on an athlete."
...
"We are indeed at a critical stage of transition between the old guard and the new; we need to give young athletes more room to learn through trial and error," Wang Hao said. "We lost this time, but we must turn this defeat into something positive.")

(On the evening of September 24, the Japanese team defeated the Chinese team 3–2 in the Asian Games men's team table tennis final, ending China's streak of eight consecutive men's team titles at the Games. After the match, Wang Hao, head coach of the Chinese men's team, stated that although the result was disappointing, the players had given their all. He expressed hope that the team would quickly adjust their mindset and shift their focus to the upcoming individual events.
"First of all, I want to congratulate our opponents on their victory," Wang Hao said. "The three athletes who competed today gave it their absolute all. Matches don't always go as smoothly as expected, but I believe everyone worked incredibly hard—from the players who competed to those on the sidelines who supported the team and handled logistics."
Wang Hao noted that while the loss in the men's team event was regrettable, the team would not dwell on the defeat.
"We will go back and review the match thoroughly. With many individual events starting tomorrow, I hope everyone can quickly regroup and perform well in every match."
Addressing the public interest in the lineup chosen for the final, Wang Hao explained that it was not a last-minute change but a decision made by the coaching staff after careful consideration; a key objective was to allow young players to gain experience in a major international tournament.
"We actually anticipated the scenarios we might face in the final back during the semifinals and prepared accordingly," Wang Hao said. "The most important thing about matches like this is allowing young athletes to grow through the experience of a major tournament. Without going through semifinals and finals like these, they wouldn't truly grasp the intense, unforgiving nature of such competitions."
He noted that the team is currently in a transitional phase, with many players competing in a multi-sport event like the Asian Games for the first time.
"The achievements the Chinese team has secured in the past were hard-won by generations of predecessors and champions. Now, it is our task to guide these young players as they take on challenges match by match," said Wang Hao. Although the men's team fell short of its goal, Wang noted the growth of the young players during the competition:
"Their performance on the court exceeded my expectations. We had chances in both matches; we simply lacked experience, the ability to control the flow of the game, and the seasoning that comes from major tournaments."
Wang Hao emphasized that such a defeat is also part of a young player's development.
"There are many major tournaments ahead; they need to summon the courage to bounce back from a loss like this."
Addressing concerns regarding tournament accommodation and logistics, Wang acknowledged that the team checked into their hotel quite late on the day they arrived in Nagoya, but stated that this was not an excuse for the loss.
"These are all part of the competition," he said. "No matter the circumstances, we accept them and prepare accordingly. Regarding the long commute between the hotel and the venue—well, every Olympics or Asian Games presents its own unique challenges. As the Chinese team, we don't fear these difficulties; we are ready to embrace the challenge."
Discussing the Japanese team's recent bold strategy of fielding young players and the future direction of the Chinese men's team, Wang Hao noted that the Chinese men's squad is also in a critical transitional phase between generations and needs to provide young players with more room to grow.
"At this stage, we need to give young athletes the space to make mistakes and learn from them, allowing them to accumulate experience in major competitions," Wang said. He expressed hope that the public would show more understanding toward the young players and the coaching staff.
"They work incredibly hard every day, bearing the pressure of wins and losses while facing external scrutiny. The coaches are deeply dedicated to the team, often with little time left for their own families."
Finally, Wang Hao expressed hope that this defeat would serve as a catalyst for the team's growth.
"The team shares both glory and adversity," he said. "We lost this time, but we must turn a setback into an opportunity for improvement, with the aim of winning back our standing next time."
