Just finished watching Hong Kong knock out China 3-2 in the U19 XD QF. Despite being undersized and probably younger(?), they used smart placement and fast, heavy pushes (must have been watching Felix) to get China off balance.

More like Ito. Wong Hoi Tung was the key here, who plays raw pips on BH. If only Hayata had half her TT quotient...

Alright you all need to check out this match between Sun and Sakai. First time tuning into the tournament and I'm pretty sure I was lucky enough to catch the best one.

Sakai really giving off anime main protagonist vibes. Visually, he has that the generically soft face. But the main reason is the tenacity. Was down 2-0 with things looking dire but he kept getting stronger and stronger as the match went on.

Usually I'd be rooting for the novelty of a super talented young chopper than a standard Japanese power player but couldn't help rooting for Sakai. Kid gave it 100% and never gave up on any point.

There were times when Sun would up his game and make some amazing saves turning momentum of the point around but Sakai always hung in there. Some crazy rallies and a long deuce battle at game 6.

Game 7 Sakai had a run of 9 points in a row where he looked absolutely spectacular. Sun would switch from chopping to attack and the fast change up still didn't phase Sakai as he became a blocking defender at times.

Start watching at the 3 hour mark

Great match. Sakai showed some real mental toughness being down 1-3 to win the bo7. I think he decided to target mostly the BH and sometimes to the FH as long as he got back a FH chop. He wanted to avoid the dangerous FH counter drive of Sun Yang. Sun Yang is the highest ranked U17 player so it's very difficult to get past him. But Japan did their homework, and he has 2 losses from Japan this tournament: Yoshiyama and now Sakai.

The kid is young so makes sense he is still susceptible to the Japanese lefties. The match was fun to watch, the Japanese kid seemed to put so much on the ball that Sun xiulsny avoid giving him balls he wanted.
