haha, that is so trueIt's kind of funny to see that they're characteristics haven't changed; Lin Yun-Ju is still calm and composed, Harimoto as vocal as ever.
Lin was always a BH strong player, so one his previous coach focused more on the BH Flick, and the rest was historyTony, do you know how Lin came to be a backhand flick god?
It's just a Taiwanese trait(hopefully for me)Tony, do you know how Lin came to be a backhand flick god?
I saw a Table Tennis Central video of Harimoto growing up and his table tennis level increasing, and suddenly, as he reached 15, i heard the classic chole we hear today.haha, that is so true
I think Harimoto just wasn't that loud then, since his lungs were smaller.
As he grew in his height and power, so has his screaming volume
It's quite interesting because here he kept pushing on his BH, no sign of the crazy BH game that almost defines him these days.Lin was always a BH strong player, so one his previous coach focused more on the BH Flick, and the rest was history
That just shows some people peak earlier and some people peak later. It's quite interesting because here he kept pushing on his BH, no sign of the crazy BH game that almost defines him these days.
Whereas with Harimoto I could already see his excellent BH stroke structure even in this video.
I actually can't remember what age was this video taken,It's quite interesting because here he kept pushing on his BH, no sign of the crazy BH game that almost defines him these days.

He's still one of the top players for sure and has defeated both Wang Chuqin and Fan Zhendong which is no small feat! That just shows some people peak earlier and some people peak later.
I don't think Harimoto is done yet. But it seems like as he gets older and stronger, maybe he is less agile and slower in his reflexes. His forehand is getting better, no doubt. He can rally a bit more. But his backhand is still his focus. However, he is young so I hate to say his reflexes are slower. Maybe some of the muscle masses are slowing him down actually.
Then of course, many people have figured out his game including Quadri Aruna.
In the post game interview, Aruna said he got some tips from other people at the tournament prior to his match with Harimoto. He could go into details. I wonder what tips he got. He's still one of the top players for sure and has defeated both Wang Chuqin and Fan Zhendong which is no small feat!
I think in his losses he tended to push long and block a bit way too much, not sure if it's just for fooling around, experimenting or that he's just feeling lazy. When he is BH chiquitaing, or short pushing everything and always aggressively looking for the 1st attack he is getting much better results - he is capable of doing that and that is how he is winning against top CNT players.
That Aruna match was weird in how Harimoto was content to play push push with Aruna - not the ideal strategy against someone with such devastating loopkill vs backspin.
